CHICOPEE, Mass. — In the Woodstock Academy’s first varsity hockey game, the Centaurs fell to Chicopee 5-3.
In the first period Freshman forward Nathan DeLuca scored the first goal in the inaugural Woodstock Varsity Ice Hockey program. He was assisted by Jordan Lamothe and Will Liscomb. A minute later he scored again assisted by Jordan Lamothe and Jon-Luc Cournoyer to put Woodstock up 2-0. Chicopee answered with two goals of their own as the first period came to a close. The second period was a hard hitting affair with neither team scoring but resulting in a game ending injury for WA sophomore defenseman Connor Bavosi with a sprained ankle.  The third period was a defensive battle as WA Goaltender Baylee Johns (27 of 33) and the overmatched defense turned back shot after shot. The score stayed tied until late in the third period when Chicopee took advantage of a 5 on 3 powerplay taking the lead with 1:39 to play. Penalty’s continued to hurt Woodstock’s chances playing the last four minutes of the third period shorthanded  5 on 3 and 5 on 4. Chicopee scored two more power play goals to make the score 5-2 before Will Liscomb scored with 11 seconds left assisted by Nathan DeLuca to end the game at 5 to 3.
