S. WOODSTOCK — The end of summer celebration in Connecticut rolls on into its 162nd year as the Woodstock Fair on Rt. 169 will offer four days of fun.
The Woodstock Fair, always Labor Day weekend, will open its gates at noon Sept. 1 through Sept. 4.
In addition to the many agricultural competitions, exhibitions and demonstrations, fantastic food, the Fiesta Shows midway, pulling shows and more, the Woodstock Fair also continues to be one of the best entertainment values going.
This year’s headliners on the Main Stage include Scott Stapp, the voice of Creed, at 8 p.m. Sept. 3. The hit song “With Arms Wide Open” was a Grammy Award winner in 2001. He will perform all of the Creed hits as well as some of his solo work.
Also Sept. 3 Elton John tribute act, Bennie and the Jets, will perform at 2:30 p.m. and the local band, Red Light, will have two shows at 1:30 and 5:15 p.m.
The Main Stage at the Woodstock Fair will pivot to country at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 4 with the Eli Young Band. The band has had four No.1 hits on the Billboard country chart including “Crazy Girl,” “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” “Drunk Last Night,” and “Love Ain’t.”
In addition to the Eli Young Band, local favorite Whiskey Boulevard, will also perform on the Main Stage at 11:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Sept. 4.
Cassadee Pope will be the first headliner at the fair at 8 p.m. Sept. 1. She was the first female winner of “The Voice.” Her pop/punk roots which will be on full display at the Woodstock Fair including her latest releases, “People That I Love Leave” and “Almost There.”
Local band Tucker’s Creek, featuring southern rock covers, will also perform at 4:15 and 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
A fair favorite, Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, will be there at 8 p.m. Sept. 2.
The consummate performer will cheer everyone up with the classic renditions of his hits such as The Reminisants will play at noon and 4:30 p.m. and the Soul Factory will be on the Main Stage at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2.
Jerry Frasier, a comic magician and hypnotist from the Midwest, will also have two shows daily throughout the four days of the Fair.
On the South Stage, Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band, Fortunate Sons, will play on at 1 p.m. Sept. 1.
Crosby, Stills and Nash tribute, Wooden Horses, will play at 4:30.
Sept. 3 the Illusions Band at noon, followed by country with Mycheal David at 3:30 p.m. and the Rave On band at 6:30 p.m.
The Woodstock Fair welcomes back the East Woodstock Cornet Band at 1 p.m. Sept. 4.
For something completely different, fairgoers will be entertained by a performer who was on “America’s Got Talent”, Jim Cruise, the Spoon Man, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Magician Chris Lengyel will close out the South Stage on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
In addition, the South Stage will feature a country karaoke contest on Friday at 6 p.m. and a pop karaoke contest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
There will be other contests as well including grapefruit bowling, wheelbarrow, toddler and diaper dash races even a flapjack toss.
A new addition to the grounds this year at the Woodstock Fair all four days will be the “Wolves of the World” exhibition.
Admission to the Woodstock Fair is $15 for adults; advance general admission tickets are $13, senior citizens and active military with an ID $10, children 10 years and under admitted free.

Sunflowers  Fund-raiser
POMFRET --- United Services of Connecticut will have its annual Sunflower for Kids starting at 10 a.m. at Lapsley Orchards. The end-of-summer bounty of sunflowers and wildflowers, which are harvested and sold in bunches, or available to pick your own. 100 percent of proceeds are donated to United Services Children and Family Programs.
