'Gypsy' coming
March 28
PUTNAM — The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut will present the American musical “Gypsy” starting March 28 and running for three weekends in the newly renovated Bradley Playhouse.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 28, 29, April 4, 5, 11 and 12 and at 2 p.m. March 30, April 6 and 13. Tickets are $21 for adults and $18 for seniors and students.
Gypsy, with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is loosely based on the memoirs of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, but the main focus is on her mother, Rose, who was the ultimate show business mother. The play follows the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage. The Bradley Playhouse began life as a vaudeville theater, and Rose and her daughters would have felt right at home on its stage.
The TNECT production of Gypsy is co-directed by Kathleen Atwood and Nicholas Magrey. Bob Sloat is the music director and Annette Hebard of The Putnam Dance Center is the choreographer. Rose is played by Diane Pollard, Scott Guerin is Herbie and Genna Rittenhouse appears as Louise. Emma Smith is Baby June and Arianna Hamill plays Baby Louise. Summer Green, Maya Summiel and Amelie van der Swaagh, three young girls, support Baby June and Baby Louise in their dance numbers. The strippers who teach Louise “You Gotta Get A Gimmick” are played by Natasha Darius, Robin Lofquist and Jessica van der Swaagh.
Come and experience Gypsy on the authentic vaudeville stage of the Bradley Playhouse, where you can sit back and imagine what it was like to attend a show in the golden age of vaudeville. The Bradley Playhouse is located at 30 Front Street (Route 44) in Putnam, CT.  All seats are reserved. Reservations may be made with a major credit card online at www.thebradleyplayhouse.org or by calling 860-928-7887. Tickets may be purchased at the theater box office, either before the performance or at the door.
