Funds available
DANIELSON — The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) announced it will provide funds to nonprofit organizations and municipal, regional, state or federal agencies that sponsor a 2013 Earth Month or River Cleanup in the region.  Last year, more than 1,000 volunteers removed about 12 tons of trash from rivers, parks, and roads. TLGV will reimburse organizations up to $500 for expenses like publicity, cleanup supplies such as trash bags and work gloves, and food for volunteers.  TLGV will also help publicize the event and work with each organization to recruit more volunteers.
Interested organizations should submit a letter to TLGV, on their organization’s letterhead, at least six weeks before the proposed event.  The letter should include: basic details about the cleanup (what, when, where, and who); contact information (including an email address); explain what you hope to accomplish; provide a budget detailing how you will use TLGV funds; let TLGV know who will be picking up and disposing of the trash (TLGV can’t cover that cost); describe how youth (the future stewards of The Last Green Valley) will be involved in the cleanup; and include a plan for publicizing not just the event, but the results.  Nonprofit organizations should also submit a copy of their 501(c) designation letter from the IRS. Will Run
April 15  Laura Lokitis of Pomfret will run the 117th Boston Marathon® in support of Boston Children’s Hospital. She is a member a member of Children’s Miles for Miracles Team.  After losing her best friend in a tragic car accident in June of 2011, Lokitis knew it was time to hit the road running to carry on her courageous and determined spirit. As of October 2012, she registered for the Boston Marathon and signed on to the Boston Children’s Hospital team where she is also a member of the patient partner program and committed to raising $5,000. This program pairs runners with a patient at the hospital and is a way to create a magical experience for both. Lokitis is paired with a 5 year old who has a severe heart condition and has been fortunate to be blessed with this pairing. “ Training has been difficult at times. I truly believe that in the passing of my best friend, I was given the blessing of this little girl and new family. She inspires me every day to get out running. I have a feeling that April 15 is going to be one of the best days of my life, “ said Lokitis. If you would like to support Laura visit: https://www.milesformiracles.org/boston/llokitis2013.
