Earn designation
WOODSTOCK — First Selectman, Allan D. Walke Jr., announced that Delia Fey, Town Planner and Zoning Enforcement Officer, and Tina Lajoie, Administrative Assistant to the Building Official, recently earned the designation of Certified Zoning Enforcement Official through the State of Connecticut Association of Zoning Enforcement Officials.
“We are extremely proud of Delia and Tina for successfully completing this rigorous program and being awarded the title of Certified Zoning Enforcement Official. The knowledge they have attained will further enhance the guidance and assistance they provide to the residents of the Town of Woodstock. Being able to offer a wide range of services is of the utmost importance to the Board of Selectmen.”

DUDLEY — Nichols College graduated almost 500 students May 9, 2015, including local students: 
Penny Paquette, from Putnam, ABA; Sara Thompson, from Danielson, ABA; Emily Looby, from Woodstock and a major in English , received a BA summa cum laude; Kerri Nadeau, from Chepachet and a major in Psychology , received a BA magna cum laude; Nathan Hardt, from North Grosvenordale and a major in Marketing , received a BSBA; Kaitlyn Larrabee, from Glocester and a major in Marketing and Management, received a BSBA summa cum laude; Alan MacKenzie, from Putnam  and a major in Information Technology Management , received a BSBA; Michael Merjuste, from Putnam and a major in Marketing and Criminal Justice Management, received a BSBA; Jeffrey Schmeltz, from Pascoag and a major in General Business , received a BSBA cum laude; Ian Stadig, from Putnam and a major in Management and Marketing, received a BSBA cum laude; Ian Sullivan, from North Grosvenordale and a major in Criminal Justice Management , received a BSBA cum laude.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Bryant University held its Graduate School Commencement May 14, 2015 and the following local students received degrees: Veronica Jane Santerre of N. Grosvenordale received a Master of Arts in Teaching; Alyce E. Viens of Putnam received a Master of Arts – HONORS; Scott A. Waterman of Danielson received a Master of Arts in Teaching - HONORS.

WILLIMANTIC — A 12-hour website development competition called the “Code-A-Thon” took place at Eastern Connecticut State University and Matthew Witkowski ’15, of N. Grosvenordale, who majors in Business Information Systems, was a member of the winning team.

WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University’s 125th Commencement took place May 12, 2015 and the following local students received diplomas: Kristin Collins of Putnam, received a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education; Nicholas Milano of Pomfret, received a Master of Science degree in Organizational Management; Karin Anderson of Woodstock, received a Master of Science degree in Reading/Language Arts; Shelbie Greene of Putnam, received a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education.

WILLIMANTIC — A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into Eastern’s Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) Computer Science Honor Society including: Matthew Witkowski ’15 of North Grosvenordale. He is a Business Information Systems major.

WATERFORD — Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has received awards from the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut for its innovative fund-raising efforts and benefactor support of the Gales Ferry-based social services agency.
“We’re honored to receive United Way’s 2014 Innovative Partner of the Year and Benefactor awards,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and CEO. “Charter Oak has been a longtime supporter of United Way, and our employees give generously of their time and money because we all believe in Living United,” he said.
Charter Oak has two local branches: Putnam and Dayville.

The Pomfret Planning & Zoning Commission will hold the following Public Hearings on Monday, June 22, 2015, starting at 7:00 PM at the Pomfret Senior Center:
1. An application from John & Karen DeLuca, special permit for a 90’ by 68’ barn for equipment storage and workshop
2. An application from Maureen Nicholson for the Pomfret Fire House, special permit for an addition to the Fire House in a residential zone
A copy of these applications is on file in the office of the Planning and Zoning Commission, 5 Haven Road Pomfret, Connecticut. The files are available for review during normal business hours.
