POMFRET — David ’Drew’ Andrew Marshall of Woodstock, an incoming member of the Pomfret School class of 2019, is this year’s recipient of the Patrick Wood ’01 Memorial Prize. Drew, a talented musician and athlete who has been home schooled, received the award from Patrick’s parents Robert Wood and Lisette Rimer, June 12, on the School’s campus. Drew will be entering Pomfret’s freshman class in September.
Patrick Wood, a graduate of the Pomfret class of 2001, was a beloved son and brother, top scholar, accomplished musician, and outstanding member of the Pomfret School community. He passed away in 2006. The prize was established in 2007 by his parents “to honor [Patrick’s] legacy of ability and integrity,” and is awarded annually to a newly enrolled day student from northeastern Connecticut.
“Drew is a perfect candidate to carry on Pat’s legacy of excellence and character at Pomfret,” said Lisette Rimer. “He’s obviously bright and talented.  We loved the fact that he’s a piano-playing shortstop: quite a combination.  And he’s also personable.   Congratulations to Pomfret,” she added, “on choosing another outstanding young scholar.  It’s a testament to the school that advanced students feel at home there.”
Pomfret’s newest Wood Scholar received a $1000 scholarship for books and supplies. Others chosen by Pat’s family to honor his legacy. Beginning with Hannah Leo ’11 of Pomfret Center (who went on to Yale), the group includes Zachary Bellerose ’12 of Putnam (Northeastern), Isabelle Lofquist ’12 of Danielson  (UNC Asheville), Daniel Kellaway ’13 of Pomfret Center (Hamilton), Harrison Schroder ’13 of Woodstock  (Middlebury), Caed Jones ’15 of Pomfret Center (NYU), Dylan and Evan Clarkin ’16 of Brooklyn, and Greg Rice and Julie Sullivan, both from the class of 2017.
