roundup
WOODSTOCK — The roundup of Woodstock Academy sports includes:
Feb. 15
Indoor track:
At states in indoor track on Friday night we had a great showing in New Haven when two of our athletes both came in 5th in the state in Class L. Sarah Swenson and Molly Gibeault both placed 5th at the State Class L Meet on Friday evening which qualified them for the State Open Meet on Tuesday at Hillhouse High School in New Haven.  Molly Giabault qualified in the pole vault jumping 9 feet and Sarah Swenson qualified in the 300 meter race. Congratulations to both Molly Gibeault and Sarah Swenson for their outstanding achievement in indoor track
Wrestling:
At the Class M State Championships Graysen DeLuca came in 3rd place in the 126 pound weight class. Out of 32 wrestlers who were represented in his weight class, Graysen managed to wrestle back to third place after losing his second match of the championships. It took three tough matches after his loss to get back to manage to capture the bronze medal. By coming in 3rd place Graysen has qualified for the State Open Championship which will take place next Friday and Saturday at Hillhouse High School in New Haven. Also Jacob Bowen, Cody Maiorino, and Avery Rollins had good meets for Woodstock Academy, all coming just one match short of placing at the State Championships.
Ice Hockey
Academy 2 - Auburn 1
There was a thriller at the Ice Hockey game when Woodstock Academy took on Auburn High School. Auburn scored first and held a 1-0 lead for the first half of the game. In the second period Drew Beaupre had a end to end rush, he made a great pass to the front of the net right onto his brother Austin Beaupre’s stick for the goal to tie the game. The game remained tied 1-1 until the end of regulation. The two teams played four on four in overtime, but the game remained tie pushing the game to a shoot out. In the shoot out Woodstock Academy’s Connor Bavosie went first and scored. Our next shooter Jordan Lamothe went 5 hole, but the goalie stopped him. Austin Beaupre also scored for the Academy. Auburn did not score any goals in the shoot out so Woodstock won the game 3-1 in a shoot out. What an exciting game! Tucker Johns had 36 saves in net for the Centaurs.
Boys’ Basketball
Academy 71 - Stonington 48
The boys’ basketball team improved their record to 17 and 2 with an impressive 71-48 victory over Stonington High School. Ian Converse led the way with 24 points, Chris Lowry added 16, and Tristan Welch had 14. The boys hoop team has one game remaining on Monday night against Killingly High School at 7 pm. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Centaurs have secured the #2 seed in the ECC Championship Tournament. For the ECC Tournament the boys’ basketball team will play next Saturday afternoon (2/23/13) at 2:00 p.m against the winner of the #10 St. Bernard vs. #7 Stonington winner at St. Bernard’s High School.
