Road work set
PUTNAM — The Town of Putnam announced that road work was scheduled to begin June 25 on Five Mile River Road, from the Wilson Road intersection to Tucker Hill. Tucker Hill Road has already been repaved. Loose stone signs are already up. Expect delays, please find alternate roads if possible.

Scholarships awarded
WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Agricultural Society, sponsor of the annual Woodstock Fair, recently awarded 11 scholarships to seniors who graduated from The Woodstock Academy and the Killingly High School Vocational Agriculture program and who will attend college in the fall.
The H. Dexter Young Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Killingly Vo-Ag student Sydney Mullen; the Fern Phaneuf Memorial Scholarship went to Killingly Vo-Ag senior Amber Cobb and the Preston T. Roberts scholarship to Peyton Rosen.
Woodstock Agricultural Society scholarships were also awarded Woodstock Academy seniors David Bunning, Charlie Caggiano, Jared Nielsen, Cang Nguyen, Evan Rhault, Talia Tremblay, and Lilly Verraneault and Killingly Vo-Ag student Ian Stone.
The Woodstock Fair, Always Labor Day Weekend, will take place this year from Aug. 30 – Sept. 2. For more information about the 163rd annual Woodstock Fair, go to woodstockfair.com.

Concert
WOODSTOCK --- The Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut, The Three C’s and Historic New England will present a free concert at 6 p.m. on the lawn at Roseland Cottage with the St. Luke's Steel Band performing Caribbean music. St. Luke’s band started when New Haven’s historic St. Luke’s Church purchased a set of used steel pans in 1999. The group includes musicians from the West Indies, Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago. Their repertoire includes soca, calypso, reggae, classical, sacred, jazz, popular and island folk music. Main Street Gelato will be on site.

Historic Eucharist
BROOKLYN --- In honor of Independence Day, the public is invited to an historic Eucharist at 10 a.m. at Old Trinity Church at 60 Church St. Old Trinity is the oldest standing Episcopal church in Connecticut. The service will feature a salute to American folk music officiated by priest-in-charge, The Rev. Dr. Gretchen S. Grimshaw. Fireworks
PUTNAM --- The town of Putnam will present a fireworks and family fun extravaganza. From 5 to 6 p.m. listen to The Paperback Writers, a Beatles cover band, from 7:15 to 9:15 hear the sounds of the headliner band, Whiskey Boulevard. Fireworks start at 9:15. There will also be food and family fun at Putnam Rotary Park. Rain date is July 13.

WOODSTOCK --- Quiet Corner Gardens, a self-guided tour of eight gardens in Pomfret, Putnam and Woodstock from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 13, is the Quiet Corner Garden Club’s latest offering to the community. Anyone with a flamingo or dressed in predominantly pink clothes will be entered in a special drawing—must be present to win. Cosponsored by Historic New England and Woodstock Recreation. Legal Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the Town and Fire District of Pomfret that the first installment of taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2023, is DUE AND PAYABLE July 1, 2024. The last day to pay without penalty is August 1, 2024. Per State Statute, interest will be charged at 18% annually (1.5% per month), with a minimum charge of $2.00 per entity (Town and Fire District are separate entities) on all delinquent payments postmarked after August 1, 2024.
Please make all checks payable to Pomfret Tax Collector. The mailing address is 5 Haven Road, Pomfret Center, CT 06259. If a receipt is desired, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. For more information or to pay online, go to www.pomfretct.gov.
