Transfer pg 1 5-22-14

Transfer
station gets
$450,000
WOODSTOCK — The town was recently notified that a $450,000 state grant for improvements to the transfer station was approved.
State Representative Mike Alberts (R-50th) said the Small Town Economic Assistance Funds grant is for finishing a second and third phase of the transfer station renovation project. The Woodstock Transfer Station is used by Woodstock residents, property owners and businesses to properly dispose of their solid waste, brush, used batteries, waste oil, and other recyclables. Due to local budget restraints, Rep. Alberts strongly advocated for state assistance to finish Phase II and III of the Woodstock Transfer Station Renovation Project, which aims to improve the quality and efficiency of the waste facility.
“These funds will transform an outdated piece of Woodstock’s infrastructure into an efficient and environmentally sound facility, preventing possible environmental issues and initiating immediate cost savings for our community,” said Alberts. “Without this funding, these important modifications could not be possible. I’d like to thank Governor Malloy for approving our request for state aid.”
State Representative Mike Alberts represents the 50th General Assembly district towns of Brooklyn, Eastford, Pomfret, Union and Woodstock.

Killingly pg 1 5-22-14

By Ron P. Coderre
Killingly remained perfect on the season, picking up a pair of matches lifting its record to 13-0-0 on the season and 8-0-0 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division.  Tourtellotte, which may be the hottest team in the area right now, rolled over four opponents.  The Tigers are 13-1-0 and 7-0-0 in the ECC Small Division.
Meanwhile in Putnam, the Clippers have become a mystery as only two golfers are competing.  Putnam was on a roll prior to the team break up and since has fallen on hard times, now posting a record of 13-5-0.
Jezierski Leading Tigers Over Competition.
Tourtellotte shutout three of its four opponents last week and came within an eyelash of making it a complete shutout sweep.  In a tri-match at Foster Country Club in Rhode Island, Mike Jezierski circle the nine holes is 35 and was the medalist as the Tigers swept Plainfield and Windham 7-0.  Brandon Bonnette and Andrew Coderre with scores of 41 and 42 respectively supported Jezierski in the sweep.
Back on its home course, Raceway Golf Club, Tourtellotte captured another tri-match shutting out a depleted Putnam squad 7-0 and besting Griswold 6-1.  Jezierski’s 34 tied him with the Clippers Spencer Salvas for medalist honors.  Coderre fired a 41 in picking up two wins for the 13-1-0 overall and 7-0-0 Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division Tigers.
Putnam was beaten by Griswold 5-2 as its lonesome twosome of Salvas and Nate Tozzi captured their matches but were the only two players the Clippers could produce that day.
Killingly High School continues to ride the coattails of Drew and John Aitken, maintaining its perfect record with wins over Woodstock Academy (7-0) and Stonington (6-1).  The Aitken brothers with a score of 38 at Quinnatisset were medalists against the Centaurs.  Drew Aitken (36) and John Aitken (38) led the Redmen over the Bears of Stonington in the match played at Connecticut National Golf Club.
Plainfield picked up a victory in a 6-1 match over Windham but fell to Bacon 7-0.  The Panthers are 2-11-0 on the season and 1-7-0 in the ECC Medium Division.  Woodstock Academy raised its record to 4-11-0 and 1-6-0 in the ECC Large Division with a 5-2 win over Fitch.  Earlier the Centaurs were dropped by East Lyme 6-1.
Ellis Tech, which stands at 9-5-0 overall and 8-5-0 in the Constitution State Conference East lost to conference foes Norwich Tech 210-211 and Parish Hill 177-191.
In the preps, Pomfret School raised its record to 7-4-0 as the Griffins split four matches last week.  The Griffs beat Marianapolis 208-237, despite a two under par 34 by the Golden Knights Joe Ko, who was medalist.  The Golden Knights are 2-10-0.  In the other portion of the tri-match, Pomfret rolled over Forman 208-254.  Phil Cook and Nate Kremer with a pair of 40’s were the top performers for Pomfret.
A score of 199 wasn’t good enough against Loomis – Chaffee and Wilbraham & Monson Academy as the Griffins came out third in a tri-match at Quinnatisset Country Club.  They lost to Loomis – Chaffee 189-199 and to Wilbraham & Monson 194-199.
RPC’s Super Standings: Killingly 13-0-0; Tourtellotte 13-1-0; Putnam 13-5-0; Ellis Tech 9-5-0; Pomfret School 7-4-0; Woodstock Academy 4-11-0; Marianapolis 2-10-0; Plainfield 2-11-0.  Girls: Woodstock Academy 5-3-0.
