A recent announcement by Putnam Science Academy basketball coach Tom Espinosa verified the addition of combo guard Josh Wallace to the 2014-2015 Mustangs hoop squad.  Wallace, a 6-foot, 3-inch Queens, N.Y., product, played for coach Tom Marchesini at Holy Cross High School in the city last season.
“The addition of Josh Wallace to our team continues to build versatility in our program for this season.  We project him to play a number of positions and give us some solid minutes on the court,” said Espinosa.
Last season at Holy Cross High School in New York Wallace averaged 16 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the team which finished with an 11-12 record.  He garnered honorable mention all-league honors for his performance.
“Josh is a mature 17-year old, who is a big strong kid for his age.  He fits in well at our school because he’s a serious student, who comes to us with very good grades.  He’s very confident on the court, plays under control and should provide us with some solid offense,” said Espinosa.
The addition of Wallace, who has Division I potential, comes at a time when the Mustangs appeared to need a player of his caliber.  Earlier in the month Espinosa was notified that two of his recruits for the upcoming season had decided not to matriculate to the Maple Street campus.
Brendan Wagner, a 6-8 big man from Pennsylvania, has decided to enroll at a junior college rather than spend a postgraduate year at a prep school.  Tim Quashi, a 5-10 guard from Long Island, recently tore his ACL and can’t play basketball for more than one year while he rehabs the knee following surge
