Town of Pomfret
NOVEMBER 4, 2014 - STATE ELECTION
The Electors of the TOWN OF POMFRET are hereby warned to meet at their respective polling places in said Town on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, for the following purposes:
I. To cast their votes for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Representative in Congress,
State Senator, State Representative, Secretary of the State, Treasurer, Comptroller, Attorney General, and Judge of Probate.
II. To vote on the following question for the approval or disapproval of a proposed AMENDMENT to the Constitution of Connecticut, a vote of “YES” being a vote for approval, and a vote of “NO” being a vote for disapproval:
1. Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to remove restrictions concerning absentee ballots and to permit a person to vote without appearing at a polling place on the day of an election?
The full text of such proposed question with explanatory test, printed in accordance with §2-30a of the General Statutes, is available at the Town Clerk’s Office, Five Haven Road, Pomfret, Connecticut, for public distribution.
The vote on the proposed question is taken pursuant to the Constitution of Connecticut.
Notice is hereby given that the location of the polling places is as follows:
Location of Polling Place: Pomfret Community School Auditorium, 20 Pomfret Street (Junction of Routes 169 & 101), Pomfret, Connecticut.
**Absentee Ballots will be counted at the Pomfret Community School Auditorium, 20 Pomfret
Street, Pomfret, Connecticut.
Voting tabulators will be used. The polls will be opened at six o’clock in the morning (6:00 a.m.) and will remain open until eight o’clock in the evening (8:00 p.m.).

WPCA Water/Sewer Collections
The October 2014 billing of water and / or sewer collections for the Town of Putnam WPCA is due and payable on November 1, 2014.
Payments made after November 1, 2014 will be subject to an Interest charge of 3% (1.5% per month) or $2.00 minimum whichever is higher, according to Connecticut State Statute SEC. 12-146.
Mail must be postmarked no later than November 1, 2014 to avoid interest charges.

Master Gardner program is set
Like gardening? Like helping others? Apply now for the 2015 Master UConn Master Gardener Program training class. The program gets under way in January in Brooklyn, CT at the Windham County UConn Extension Center. The program provides training to those who desire to know more about all kinds of gardening and who want to share this knowledge with others. The MG program is a state-wide program sponsored by UConn’s Department of Extension, part of UConn’s College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays beginning Jan. 9.
For applications: go to: www.mastergardener.uconn.edu or go to the center in Brooklyn on Wolf Den Road. Deadline is Nov. 7. Cost is $415 and partial scholarships may be available based on financial need.
The program usually finishes in April and MG interns continue their training helping fellow gardeners solve garden problems. MG Interns work as volunteers in one of UConn’s Extension Centers using their newly expanded gardening knowledge and the Center’s resources to answer questions from the public. “
Educational Outreach is the third phase of the MG training program. May through September MG Interns work on projects to benefit the public. Examples of such projects are: Peoples Harvest Community Garden in Pomfret (which supplies vegetables to local soup kitchens), helping develop gardens at Palmer Arboretum in Woodstock, developing display gardens at the Extension Center in Brooklyn, and helping with gardens at Goodwin Conservation Center in Hampton.
The program requires 30 hrs of in-office service (Centers are open M-F during business hours), spread out over five months (May-Sept) and 30 hours of outreach projects. For info call: 860-774-9600.

Clothesline Project
Paul Toussaint, co-founder of The Empty Spaces Project on Main Street in Putnam, set up new T-shirts to display from United Services Domestic Violence Program’s The Clothesline Project as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October. The Clothesline Project is a compelling visual display of T-shirts that have been created by local survivors of domestic violence. Each year during the month of October, United Services honors those women by hanging the shirts in the community to increase awareness. Each shirt represents the survivor’s strength and courage to break the silence, end the cycle of violence and heal from the traumatic experience. The shirts will be at The Empty Spaces Project until the end of October. For more information on Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities this month, visit www.unitedservicesct.org.

Pink for a Cause
Putnam Bank employees are wearing PINK on Fridays in October in support of women dealing with breast cancer. Employees will donate $1 to wear pink and funds will be forwarded to the Deary Memorial Cancer Fund. All donations will be matched by Putnam Bank.
