WATERFORD ó Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has awarded $15,000 to United Community & Family Services, Inc. of Norwich. The $15,000 grant was awarded to United Community & Family Services in October, and will be paid over the duration of three years. ìCharter Oakís generous donation to the expansion/renovation project at The Edward & Mary Lord Family Health Center at UCFS helps us achieve our mission of improving the health and well-being of the community. The completed expansion/renovation project increased our capacity by 48% allowing members of our community to access the services that we offer,î said Pamela Allen Kinder, vice president of Marketing & Facilities.

Grants awarded
State Representative Danny Rovero (D-Killingly, Putnam, Thompson) announced that $422,896 in grants for education projects in northeastern Connecticut and another $784,538 in state funding for transportation were slated for approval by the State Bond Commission recently.
The state funding proposals include: * $784,538 for bridge repairs on East Putnam Road over Mary Brown Brook in Putnam; *$140,000 to replace six precision lathes for H. H. Ellis Technical High School in Danielson; * $282,896 to finance the design of parking and site improvements at Quinebaug Community College in Danielson
 ìThese projects are essential and I am grateful to Governor Dannel P. Malloy for supporting our efforts to secure this critical funding,î Rovero said. ìThe funding will not only help pay for projects that I believe are vital, but also invest in our future.î
ìOur technical schools are key in our efforts to continue to grow Connecticutís manufacturing sector and prepare a workforce for 21st Century careers,î said Governor Dannel P. Malloy.

Putnam to be honored
HARTFORD ó The Putnam Business Associationís First Friday events will be honored by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc. (CERC) as a top economic development  program. Honors will be bestowed Dec. 3 at the annual CELEBRATE CT event.
Putnam was one of 20 award winners statewide.
