American
Legion action
heats up
By Ron P. Coderre
High school graduations and the entire hullabaloo that’s associated with Pomp and Circumstance has run its course and the boys of summer in American Legion Baseball are now swinging into serious action.
Moosup and Danielson engaged in a weekend series, the first time this season that two locals faced off.  It was a full week for both teams with five games on the slate.  Danielson went 2-3 on the week, while Moosup reversed those numbers, going 3-2.
TriTown engaged in a three game series with Waterford, playing a doubleheader on the road and a Sunday singleton in Thompson was washed out by the weatherman.  The Towners faced Jewett City earlier in the week, splitting a pair of games.  On the week TT was 1-3.
In the first two weeks of play, Moosup is the only area team in the top of the standings, solidly in third place in the 10-team Zone VI.  TriTown and Danielson are below the .500 mark.
TriTown Searching for Its Identity
TriTown baseball composed of players from four different schools is still searching for consistency as coach John Foucault and his staff attempts to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
There was a glimmer of hope in the second game of a two-game series against Jewett City , when Ryan Gadoury threw a complete game one-hitter at the JC crew.  Gadoury, who is headed to Assumption College in September, disposed of Jewett City 7-2.  The lone hit was a scratch single of the infield variety in the first inning.
Gadoury received offensive support from second baseman Benny Brissette who smashed a three-run home run.  Brissette along with Zach Cutler and Nick Foucault each had two hits in the nine-hit TriTown attack.
In the first game of the series, Jewett City pitching stymied the TriTown bats, completely shutting them down 7-0.  Brissette with two hits was the lone bright spot.
In a doubleheader against Waterford on the road the Towners dropped a pair 3-1 and 9-0.  Josh Allard pitched a whale of a game in the opener but his mates were only able to tally a single run.  Allard and Brissette each had two hits in the loss.  In the second game TriTown was limited to one hit, while Waterford pounded the Towners for 13 hits.  TriTown is 2-5 entering the third week of the season.
Moosup – Danielson Split Weekend DH
Moosup and Danielson engaged in a twinbill on Saturday in Plainfield with each team walking away with a victory.  Moosup came back from a 5-0 deficit to capture the first game 9-5 as Jordan Federer weathered early pitching woes to go the distance for the win.  Jason Biesiadecki drove home three runs for Post #91 and Dylan Horn scored a pair in the win.
In the second game Drew Daley went the distance stemming the Moosup bats in a 6-3 victory.  Charlie Innes was the hitting star for Danielson as he was 3-for-4 at the plate.
Danielson started its week with a three-game series against Norwich and dropped two-of-three.  Norwich captured the first two games of the series 7-0 and 2-1 before Danielson bounced back with a 6-5 victory that went eight innings before the outcome was decided.
In the win, Tre Belanger, who’s been knocking the cover off the ball all spring, drove in the winning run with a walk-off single in the extra frame.  Kolby Reggione had three hits and Innes had a pair of hits for Danielson.
Cory Sipos was the hard luck loser in the first game of the series.  The Danielson offense continued to sputter in the next game when it was only able to produce a single run off Norwich pitching.  Danielson is 3-5 on the season.
Moosup won the opening and closing games of its three-game series with Willimantic.  Post #91 rode the pitching of Mike Esposito in the 5-2 victory.  David Carpenter, who was 3-for-3 with three runs-batted-in, was the main offensive weapon for Moosup.
Carpenter took the hill in the final game and emerged a 6-1 victor with a complete game performance.  He allowed five hits while setting down eight Willi batters via the strike out route.  Federer had a pair of doubles and scored two runs for Moosup.  Sandwiched in between the victories was a 5-0 shutout loss to Willimantic.  Moosup is 5-3 in the early going.
TriTown Jrs. Dropped by Jewett City
The TriTown Jr. Team at 3-3 on the season lost its only game of the week 4-2 to Jewett City.  The Towners Jacob Brule went 5 2/3 innings in the loss.
