PUTNAM --- The Kochek Company of Putnam recently performed a hydrant flushing demo using Kochek’s Hydrant Maintenance products for the Putnam Water Pollution Control Authority. The demo showed how to safely flush, diffuse and de-chlorinate the hydrant water during an annual flushing campaign. The Hydro-Hitch line was used during this demonstration showing the ease of use of these products having storz and camlock connections. The benefits of using this line are; all the connections and accessories are quick connections and discharge is controlled and focused within the back portion of a utility vehicle. The Hydro-Hitch slides into the back of a class #3 hitch receiver.
Attending from Putnam Water Pollution Control Authority were Jerry Beausoleil, director of Public Works, Mike Blackmar, WPCA Maintenance Division Chief; Bill Dietz and Scott Lefebvre, Maintenance personnel. The Kochek Co. was represented by Greg Kozey, CEO, Charlie Kozey, President, Dave Matthews, director of Marketing, and Lou Thomas, Director of Corporate Sales, as well as the sales team.
Hydrant flushing is critical to the water main infrastructure within a district. Older mains have a tendency to build up scale and iron deposits restricting the water flow and available water for the customer and essential in an emergency. At the completion of the demonstration the Kochek Company donated over $ 4,000 in equipment to the Putnam Water Pollution Control Authority which included 2 complete Hydro-Hitch units, Aqua-D-Chlor and Steamer Port Diffuser. The Kochek Company previously donated 19 Storz Valves to the Town for use in the Industrial Park area. The valves allow the fire departments to attach fire engine pumpers to a hydrant in a more efficient manner.
“The Town of Putnam is very thankful for the donation to the Water Pollution Control Authority. The generosity of Greg Kozey and The Kochek Company will allow more efficient hydrant flushing and better control of the large flow of water during this process," said Beausoleil.

BROOKLYN — Mystical Rose Council 49, Knights of Columbus, of Wauregan, has earned the distinction of Star Council, one of the Catholic fraternal organization’s top awards, for the most recently completed fraternal year.
Connecticut Knights of Columbus State Deputy Thomas J. Vita said Mystical Rose Council 49 is one of only 19 local K of C councils in Connecticut to earn the Star Council Award in the last fraternal year, putting it in the top 10 percent among the 190 councils statewide. To earn the award over the course of the year, Council 49 members recruited five new members, successfully promoted the Knights’ fraternal insurance program and sponsored or participated in more than two dozen service-oriented activities in Wauregan, Brooklyn and Hampton.
The Council in Wauregan was founded in 1889.
Council 49 Grand Knight Clifford C. Soucy reeled off a partial list of Council 49’s activities, including putting on pig roasts for the parishes and fund-raising to help to buy a new ultra sound machine so local mothers could see their unborn babies, marching in Plainfield’s 2014 Memorial Day Parade, holding a memorial service for the council’s deceased members, helping to clean Sacred Heart Cemetery with local Cub Scouts, co-sponsoring a reception at Our Lady of La Salette Church in Brooklyn for Norwich Bishop Michael Cote, raising money for northeastern Connecticut’s Special Olympics team, and, just last month, hosting a regional event in Brooklyn where the Supreme Council gave away over 275 winter coats to needy, local children throughout Windham County.
