Position Advertisement for
Fire Marshal
The Town of Putnam is seeking a Fire Marshal certified by the Connecticut Fire Marshals Association. This position will report to the Town Administrator and will coordinate with the Mayor and various Town Committees including the Board of Selectmen. Performs a variety of complex administrative, supervisory, technical, and professional work related to fire inspection, fire prevention, and the investigation of fires for origin and cause. Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and implementing fire prevention and enforcement of the Connecticut Fire Safety Code to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property by fire.

This part-time position is a stipend position, based on an expected 100 hours per month including on-call hours of nights, weekends, and holiday. The expected compensation range is approximately $35,000 per year, with possible negotiation depending on experience. There is no health, dental, pension or other benefits with this position.

W. WARWICK, R.I. — Joshua “Josh” Varone has been named Senior Vice President, Human Resources, according to Centreville Bank President, CEO and Chairman of the Board Harold M. Horvat.
Varone is responsible for the direction of all human resources initiatives including developing and implementing HR programs, policies and procedures that attract and retain the best possible talent to serve the bank as well as maximizing employee engagement and driving a positive workplace culture. He works closely with other members of the leadership team to provide strategic level support and ensure that Centreville Bank remains an employer of choice within the industry.

Varone has nearly 20 years’ experience in human resources. Most recently he was the Chief Human Resources Officer at Rhode Island Medical Imaging, Providence. Prior to that, he was the Director of Human Resources at AAA Northeast, Providence.  
Varone earned a bachelor’s degree from UMass Dartmouth and a master’s from Providence College. He is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Alexandria, VA, and a member of its local chapter. Varone is designated as a Certified Professional (CP) from SHRM and earned a Professional in Human Resources Certificate (PHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute, Alexandria, VA, as well as a Professional Recruiter Certificate (PRC) from AIRS by ADP, Findlay, Ohio.  
Varone is an adjunct professor at Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I., where he develops and teaches HR courses for the University’s Executive Development Center. He previously served on the Advisory Board of “The Hire,” a Providence-based recruiting company where he advised the organization on HR policies. Varone is also active in his community as a Little League baseball coach for the town of Barrington where he currently lives.

The Town of Putnam is seeking an Economic and Development Director. This position will report to the Town Administrator and will coordinate with the Mayor and various Town Committees including acting as the Town Agent for the Economic & Community Development Commission and the Putnam Redevelopment Agency. Performs a variety of technical, administrative, supervisory, and professional work in direct oversight and control of economic development and community development activities. Responsible for planning for development in the areas of businesses, land use, economic growth, housing, transportation, and related areas.

This full-time position is a salaried position, based on a typical 35-hour work week schedule. The expected salary range is between $50,000 - $70,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience. There is health, dental, pension and other benefits with this position. Vacation, personal leave, and sick leave accruals are applicable.
