PUTNAM — The company set to build a cannabis retail facility on Park Road was given the green light by the town’s Inland Wetlands Commission recently.
The Craft Group LLC of Dudley received the OK from Inland Wetlands for activity “in upland review area associated with construction of retail building activities including parking lot, septic system, building and storm water basin” at 3 Park Road.
The property is owned by Vista Holdings LLC and is next to Heritage Valley Ford, formerly Putnam Ford. Vista Holdings LLC was incorporated Oct. 23, 2020, and the principal is listed as Jacob Dykeman.
J & D Civil Engineers of Thompson estimated there would be zero work in the wetlands on the property. The property is zoned commercial/industrial. In its project narrative, J & D said Craft Group proposes building a cannabis retail store in the open field on the south side of Heritage Valley Ford. The building will be about 3,500 square feet and will have a 29-space parking lot. The firm proposed a low-impact drainage design technique.
Craft Group LLC lists its managers as Jenna Androlewicz and Jonathan Androlewicz. They are also listed as members of Fish Road, LLC with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Cannabis Control Commission.
That LLC received approval for a marijuana establishment on Fish Road in Dudley in 2021. They are approved for indoor cultivation, Tier 6/indoor (40,001 to 50,000 sq. ft.)
The Massachusetts commission listed the following individuals as part of Fish Road, LLC: Jonathan Androlewicz (person having direct/indirect control/capital contributor), Richard Androlewicz (person having direct/indirect control/capital contributor). Those listed with direct/indirect control include: Jenna Androlewicz, Joseph Villatico, Rhett Jordan, Jason Villatico, Malcolm Beers and David Lahar. Entities listed as having direct/indirect control include: Procure Development LLC, Ellipsis Garden LLC, RJ Mass, LLC and ZetaFunction, LLC.

Welcome Home
Abington resident Armand Jolly had gifted to the Danielson Veterans Coffeehouse a print of the USS Emmons on D-Day. Jolly was on the Emmons for that and other battles. The coffeehouse last week loaned the print to the Abington Social Library. Veterans, staffers, friends and family were there for the occasion. Linda Lemmon photo.

ABINGTON — He came full circle. Armand Jolly was from the Abington section of Pomfret. From there he fought in WWII in both theaters and returned to Abington.
July 19 he returned again to Abington, in the form of a print depicting the shelling of Omaha Beach by the USS Emmons.
Jolly was a gunner on the USS Emmons, which helped secure Omaha Beach on D-Day. The real name of the beach was Fox Green Beach but the Allies renamed all their landing zones to “hide” their true identities.
After a decisive victory at the beach and the close of the European Theater, the Emmons was sent to the Pacific. There the Emmons was ravaged by five direct Kamikaze hits. Jolly was badly burned, but survived. The ship was so badly damaged it was sunk into the Pacific near Okinawa, along with a couple hundred sailors.
Jolly’s experience during WWI was recounted in his obituary: “Armand served bravely and honorably in the U.S. Navy, enlisting at age 19 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served as Gunner’s Mate Third Class on the USS Emmons DD-457, DMS-22, a destroyer/minesweeper during WWII. On D-Day, the Emmons helped to secure the invasion route for US troops on Omaha Beach. On April 6, 1945, during the battle of Okinawa, the Emmons was struck by five kamikaze planes. Sixty of the Emmons’ crew perished and 77 were wounded. Armand survived the attack, suffering injuries to his hands and face. He received several commendations and awards including a Purple Heart. Despite his bravery, he never talked about his experiences until much later in life. He remained involved with what has become the Emmons Association, an organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Emmons. He and his family attended every one of the ship’s reunions and was proud to have helped initiate a scholarship to help members of the Emmons family attend college.”
“In July 2019, he had the incredible honor of returning to Normandy 75 years after his first trip there, courtesy of Joe Massaro, regional director with Money Concepts. While there, Armand saw the US Navy monument at Utah Beach that includes the name of the Emmons, and stood on Omaha Beach, where the Emmons was actively engaged on D-Day. He was moved to tears when French military officials honored him during the daily flag-lowering ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.”
Fred Ruhlemann, president of the Danielson Veterans Coffeehouse, said part one of the print’s journey occurred when Jolly gave the coffeehouse the print. It was on the wall at the coffeehouse’s original home in Danielson. But, he said, when the group moved to the Putnam Lodge of Elks, there was no place to hang the print.
Because of Jolly’s relationship with Abington and the Abington Social Library, the coffeehouse offered to loan the print to the library. “Armand gave this (print) to us. Unfortunately when we moved to the Putnam Elks, we had no place to hang it,” Ruhlemann said.
David Howe, president of the library’s Board of Directors, told the staffers, veterans and friends, that he was “grateful to accept this.”
Howe said the Abington Social Library was established in 1793, and is the oldest continuously operating social library in the United States. The building that houses the library now was built in 1885.
Jay Livernois, a veteran and treasurer of the library, poured a nod to Normandy France with Calvados and, from America, an applejack and those attending drank a toast to Armand Jolly and his gift.
“To Armand. We hope you are good where you are.”

POMFRET — The 2023 Patrick Wood Scholar Award was presented to nineth-grader Alexandra Lee at Patrick’s memorial beech tree near the Pomfret School chapel in mid-July. Lee is the 20th recipient of the award begun in 2006 when Patrick died. She graduated from Rectory School in May and will attend Pomfret School in the fall with the help of Pat’s scholarship.
Lisette Rimer, Patrick’s mother, said: “Lee is a hardworking and well-liked student, who takes her time on assignments. Her goal is to improve and grow based on the feedback she receives from her teachers. She was chosen for her academic achievement and strong character, attributes that Patrick represented when he graduated as valedictorian from Pomfret School in 2001. He earned perfect SAT scores and graduated from Stanford with honors in 2005. He was a top programming intern at the Automation & Drives division of Siemens when he passed away. “
In addition to her academics, Lee is a strong hockey player, well known in hockey rinks all over North America. Rimer said, “Above Alexandra’s successes and accolades, we wish her happiness and joy at Pomfret in both academics and hockey.”
Patrick’s parents, Bob Wood and Lisette Rimer, also recognized Louisa Jones, who has shepherded Pat’s award since its beginning. Louisa coached and counseled Patrick and his twin sister Libby during their time at Pomfret School and has supported many events held in Pat’s honor, including an art show with artwork donated by Libby’s classmates, a concert in Patrick’s honor called “Playing for Patrick,” and memorial trees donated to Pomfret School and Pomfret Community School by local resident Charles Stoddard. Pat’s father, Robert Wood, said, “Louisa’s many kindnesses to our family over the years has only been exceeded by her sincere zeal in promoting the award amongst the Pomfret School community and in the past, and now present, recipients. She has kept Patrick’s memory viable and contemporary with every passing year.”
Tax deductible donations can be made at: https://www.patrickwoodprize.org/donate.
The Patrick Wood Memorial Scholarship was begun in 2006 to foster academic merit and support local middle school students applying to Pomfret School.
