PHS girls win
PUTNAM — Jan. 15, the Putnam High School girls’ basketball team had a 21-19 halftime lead and eventually wore down Holy Family 38-31 to win the CSC league game. The Clippers got good performances from Ashley Espinosa with 21 points, Monica Phongsa with 8 points, and Makenzi Kaylor with 5 points. Fran Alcindor grabbed 10 rebounds. The Clippers improved to 10-3 and Holy Family went to 7-4.

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Athletic Department announced that sophomore gymnastics star Jackie Deary has been named Sweet Evalina’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 6  through 12.
Deary has had an incredible start to the gymnastics season coming first in the all-around in the first three meets of the season while helping the team to three impressive victories. The Centaurs are undefeated this season.
After winning the all-around in the Centaur’s first gymnastics meet, Deary followed it up with two more gold medals in the all-around this past week. On Jan. 7, the Woodstock Academy gymnastics team beat Windham High School 146.05 to 73.55. Jackie Deary was the all-around champion posting a score of 37.8.
Deary placed first in all four of the events; vault, beam, bars, and floor. On Jan. 11, the Centaurs gymnastics team shined again with convincing victories over East Lyme and Old Lyme. The team put up a score of 144.6 which was their second highest score of the season. Deary won the all-around again which was the third time in three meets that she has taken the gold medal in the all-around. Jackie also won three of the four individual events; vault, bars, and beam. Jackie has not only been the best gymnast for Woodstock Academy, but she is one of the best in the state of Connecticut.

POTSDAM, N.Y. --- Marissa Young of Woodstock was recently named to the President’s List at The State University of New York at Potsdam. Young, whose major is Music Education, was among more than 800 students who were honored for academic excellence.

Accepting Bids
The Putnam Special Services District is accepting sealed bids for the following equipment:
Fifteen (15) - Level IIIA tactical ballistic entry body armor. The product must be compliant with NU, DEA and FBI protocols. Each set must include throat, groin and biceps protection, as well as ID and pouch choices. Pricing shall include both front and back Level III ceramic plates.
Fifteen (15) - Level IIIA tactical ballistic helmets. The product shall include adjustable four-point retention strap system and soft chin cup.
Interested bidders must provide onsite custom measurements and fitting. Bids ,which are sealed and marked "Body Armor," will be accepted at Putnam Police Headquarters  on Church Street, Putnam, until 3 p.m. on Monday, February 11th, 2013. Bids will be opened at the regular meeting of the Putnam Special Services District at 7 p.m. Monday, February 11th, 2013. The Putnam Special Services District Authority reserves the right to reject any and all submitted bids.
