POMFRET — Despite an unpredicted drizzle, spirits at the Camper Scamper 5K race/walk at the Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp in Pomfret were not dampened. The winning boy was Blake Hudock, 8, from Pomfret and the winning girl was  Hannah Tracy, 13, from  Brooklyn . Both received $50 gift certificates towards camp tuition, certainly worth racing for, as camp slots are filling up quickly.
Among the runners for the 5K that registered the day of the race were 13 students and a teacher from  Rectory School.  On Saturdays Rectory students have a variety of activities they can choose to do.   Erin Bradley,  a middle school math  teacher at the school,  likes to run 5K races and offers to bring along interested students as a Saturday activity choice.   They proved to be formidable competitors, and the top three medal places for both the girls and boys in the 13 – 17 age group division were won by members of the Rectory team.   Erin placed first in her age group and one student, Jihee Liu, placed third overall and went home with a trophy.
All money raised from this event go into the Jim Logee Campership fund to help pay camp tuition for kids who might not be able to attend without some financial assistance.    Last year the camp was able to offer some campership support to 23 percent of all campers who attended in 2016.
Camp starts this year on June  25  and runs for eight weeks.   The season ends with a 24-hour family camp offered on Aug.  18 and 19.  www.4hcampct.org .
