Norman Prentice,
Navy vet
EASTFORD — Norman (Ronny) Prentice, 81 of Eastford, son of the late Norman F. and Ina Prentice, husband of Carlene A. Prentice, died May 28, 2017,  at home. 
He was born in Worcester and served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1958 on the battleship USS Iowa. 
He later moved to Connecticut where he spent his last 45 years living in Eastford. Before retiring, he was employed at O&G Industries as a carpenter foreman. He attended Christian Life Assembly of God for nearly 50 years and very much enjoyed volunteering his carpentry skills on church missions’ trips. He was an active member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Linda Curington (Dan), and Lori Cote; three sisters, Ruth Watrous (Glen), Naomi Stauffer (Sam), and Grace McDougall (Don); eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Barry Prentice. 
A celebration of his life was held at the Christian Life Assembly in Willimantic June 2 with a committal service with military honors at the Eastford Grove Cemetery. Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
 
Leo H. LaPointe,
WWII vet
PUTNAM — Leo H. LaPointe, 91, of Putnam, died May 28, 2017 at the UMass Memorial Healthcare Center. Leo was born in 1926 in Putnam and was the son of the late Arthur and Alice “LaRose” LaPointe.
Leo served as a Merchant Marine and then with the U.S. Army where he served during WWII. After his discharge from the Army, Leo was employed as a textile worker working for Belding Corticelli Thread Company and Putnam Hertzl Finishing Company located in Putnam.
Leo earned his bachelor’s degree and greatly enjoyed the act of learning while he continued his education by taking numerous on-line college courses. He also enjoyed taking long walks through the town of Putnam. 
He leaves his sister, Jeannette Columbia of Putnam; nephew, Richard Columbia (Linda) of Putnam; grandnephew, Nicolas Columbia (Crystal); grand-niece, Michelle Smith (Brad) of Putnam; three great-great-nieces; and two great great-nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was June 2 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial with military honors in St. Mary Cemetery.  Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, Putnam.
 
Mark R. Ouellette,
Army vet
PUTNAM —Mark R. Ouellette, 57, of Green St. died May 31, 2017, at home. Mark was born in 1959 in Waterbury,  and was the son of the late Leonard and Nancy (Donahue) Ouellette. He was the husband of 21 years to his wife Sandra (Becker) Ouellette.
Mark was a veteran of the U.S. Army and then worked as a machinist for Aero Tec Fasteners. He loved the New England Patriots with his all-time favorite player being “Gronk.” Mark was a hard worker who had a deep love of the ocean and travelled extensively to visit numerous oceans and their beaches. His favorite destination to travel to was Mohegan’s Bluff on Block Island. Mark was blessed with a unique sense of humor that could truly only be appreciated by his family and closest friends.
He leaves three sons, Mark S. Ouellette (Laura) of Foster,  George White of Putnam,  and Kyle White of Putnam; daughter Amie Ouellette of Danielson; and his brother Bruce Ouellette of Florida; and three grandchildren Cole, Tori and Anna. Mark is predeceased by his daughter Danielle Ouellette, his brothers Donnie Ouellette, Doug Ouellette, David Ouellette and Brian Ouellette; and his sister Jill Perilli.
A Celebration of Life was June 6 at the Gilman Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Church St. Putnam. Donations: Hole in the Wall Gang Camp at 555 Long Warf Dr. New Haven, CT. 06511. 
 
David B. Boyd
WOODSTOCK — David B. Boyd of Woodstock died on June 4, 2017. He was born Feb. 6, 1939, in New York City. His family moved to Woodstock in 1943. He attended Woodstock Public Schools from 1945-1957, including four years in the East Woodstock one-room house 4 grades schoolhouse with lacked indoor plumbing and central heat. One wood stove, one jug of daily (from a neighbor) fresh water, one outdoor unisex privy, one swing contributed by the town plumber, one frozen lunch box (the storage room was not heated), and one teacher (25 students more or less), sufficed. Health Care: Dr. Pike was just down the street, with his apothecary, no need for the drug store.
David graduated from Woodstock Academy in 1957, Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Cum Laude in 1961, the UConn School of Law in Hartford in 1964, from thence passed the CT Bar Association in 1964.
David married Joan F. McWilliam in 1962, and their first child Christopher was born in 1964. He acquired his juris doctor degree, his license to practice law, and his first son within a few months.
David practiced law in Putnam 1964-2010. He served as an Assistant State’s Attorney (then called Prosecutor) for Windham County and UConn in Storrs (during the Vietnam war era) from 1968-1971 which afforded him considerable trial experience. He served as secretary treasurer of the Windham County Bar Association 1968-2011, overseeing and participating in numerous petty and sometimes onerous issues.
David and Joan’s second son Jonathan was born in 1969, and was therefore taken to their new summer home in Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard, the town where Jonathan still lives with his wife Mary and their daughter Emily.
David was active in numerous Woodstock community affairs, served on the Woodstock Board of Education for six years, and the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees for more than 10 years, three of which its president. (1979-1982).
David’s interest included vegetable and flower gardening, boating and beach bumming on the Vineyard where he raked clams and pulled lobster traps in Quitsa, Menemsha and Stonewall Ponds from his Boston Whaler, and sailing on Sunfish and on one occasion a square rigger (now called Tall Ship). And of course Vineyard partying with some very notable, some not so much, and some not at all.
David and Joan travelled extensively nationally, internationally, especially in Europe, North America and the Caribbean during the course of their long marriage.
He leaves his wife Joan; sons Christopher and Jonathan; granddaughter Emily; sister Heather; brother John.
A private memorial service will be held in the future. Donations: Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association. Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
 
Emdon M. Mosher
WOODSTOCK — Emdon M. Mosher, 70, of formerly of New Sweden Rd., Storrs, and Putnam, died June 5, 2017 in Backus Hospital in Norwich.  Born in 1946 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Hugh and Ethel (Mosher) Mosher.
Mr. Mosher worked as a carriage clerk for Stop & Shop.  He was a Doowop music “Efficiano” and enjoyed playing his guitar and watching television.  He was a Special Olympic athlete riding the bicycle. Emdon also enjoyed traveling and was a student of karate, traveling to Budapest, Hungary with his sensei to compete. Emdon was a quiet “gentle” man touching the hearts of all that knew him.
He leaves cousins caretakers, and friends. 
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. June 9 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a funeral service in the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Noank Valley Cemetery.  
 
Charles Cady Sr.
WOODSTOCK — Charles H. Cady Sr., 89, of Woodstock died June 3, 2017, at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, Brooklyn. Charles’ wife Priscilla died just over a month ago. They were married in Oct. of 1954. Married for 62 years, they were inseparable in life, nor could they be separated by death itself. 
Charles was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Worcester, son of the late Harrison H. and Corinne (Wanhala) Cady. 
He was a member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church, where he served on many committees. He was a graduate of Woodstock Academy. Charles was a dairy farmer for many years and owned both Bonnie View and Spring Brook Farms until going to work for his son in the construction industry. In later years, he enjoyed woodworking, travel, maintaining his property and gardening with Priscilla. Charles was well known for his knowledge of Woodstock history and collection of old photographs. He always looked forward to collecting books, reading and playing online games with his cousin Ellen West in Florida which he enjoyed until just recently. 
Besides being predeceased by his wife, he leaves his son Charles Cady (Aulikki) of Woodstock; granddaughter Annina Keegan (John) of Chicago, grandson Alex of Woodstock; brothers-in law Frank and Patsy Converse and John and Judy Converse.

Anne M. Deotte
PUTNAM —  Anne M. (Benoit) Deotte, 73, of Sabin St., died June 5, 2017, after a four-year battle with bile duct cancer.  She was the wife of the late Armand Deotte Jr.  Born in 1944 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Philibert and Alice (Auger) Benoit. Anne was a graduate of Putnam High School.
Mrs. Deotte worked for many years at Day Kimball Hospital in the Housekeeping Department.
She enjoyed going to the beach, cheering on the UConn women’s basketball team, going out with family and friends for day trips shopping and dining.
She leaves two sons Kenneth P. Deotte of Norwich and Michael J. Deotte and his husband Jonathan Wyse of Broad Brook; a daughter Susan A. Caron (Robert) of Killingly; and six grandchildren Dylan, Alyssa, Nicholas, Christopher, Noah, and Colton. She was predeceased by a sister Claire Benoit.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. June 8 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Providence Street with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.  Donations: Day Kimball Hospital Oncology Department, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.
 
Lillian Rose
POMFRET — Lillian A. (Noon) Rose, 76, of Pomfret, died June 2, 2017, in New York. She was born Dec. 31, 1940, in Putnam, daughter of the late Fred and Olive (Baker) Noon. She was the wife of Walter Rose.
Lillian was employed as an Automotive Bookkeeper and Office Manager for many years and was last employed with the Gates Auto Group Columbia Ford in Columbia. 
She loved to make people laugh.
Besides her husband Walter Rose of Pomfret she leaves her children Kristen (Chris) Karkota of Holbrook, N.Y.; Debra Jurek of Panama City, Fla., Robin (Kenny) White of Panama City, Walter (Vikki) Rose of Panama City, Brian Rose of Panama City, and Garry Rose of Pelham, Ala.; grandchildren Alexandra, Carly, Brandon, Tyler, Taylor and Ally; brothers Alan Noon of Putnam, Robert Noon of Norwich; sister Joyce Albro of Pomfret; dear friends, Debra Gagnon and family of Thompson and Deborah Trull of Woodstock. She was predeceased by three brothers Roger Bridges, Fred (Bub) Noon and Gerald Noon.
The Funeral was June 7 at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
 
Paul Szostakowski
S. WOODSTOCK — Paul F. Szostakowski, 65, of S. Woodstock, died May 27, 2017. He was the husband of Barbara (Pedersen) Szostakowski. They were married for 30 years. She died in 2015. 
He was born Jan. 9, 1952, in Webster, son of Annette (Dansereau) Szostakowski and the late Michael Szostakowski.
Paul worked at Linemaster Switch Corporation for about 30 years. He had a life-long passion for music and was a member of the bluegrass bands “Springwater” and “The New Polish Cowboys”. Music was a part of his entire life and soul. Paul took great pride in being a Pepé. He also had great compassion for animals, especially his dogs “Spats” and “Suki”. Paul had a charming sense of humor.
He leaves his mother, Annette Szostakowski of Webster; his brother Michael Szostakowski and sister-in-law Pam Szostakowski and family of Nahant, Mass.; his son Justin Szostakowski of Oxford, Mass.; his daughter Lori Szostakowski and her fiancé Shayne Skeean and two grandchildren Ryan and Reese Skeean of Danielson. 
The Funeral was June 3 at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
