It didn’t happen overnight for first-year coach Putnam Science Academy girls’ coach Derek Marchione.
But when it did happen, a lot of excitement following the first girls’ win in program history.
The Lady Mustangs (1-2) knocked off Nobles and Greenough 40-29 on the road in Dedham, Mass.
Kayla Robinson led all players with 11 points. She also added 3 rebounds and 4 steals in a game that was a defensive battle.
Niya Fields and 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals and Aislinn Flynn chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks for Putnam Science.
“I extremely happy and proud for the entire girls program,” said Dean of Athletics Tom Espinosa. “Coach Marchione and the rest of the coaching staff have been working hard and I couldn’t be any happier for them.”
The Putnam Science Academy Lady Mustangs improved their overall record to 2-2 Dec. 2 as they defeated local team, Pomfret School by a final score of 60-38.
A tight first half between the two squad had the Mustangs leading, but Pomfret was hanging tough. Aislinn Flynn, PSA’s Towson University commit, was a force on both ends and tallied a final stat line of 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Sha’raya Haines (8 rebounds and 3 assists) was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 17 points. Haines came off the bench and provided a very nice scoring punch on the perimeter.
Putnam’s local Kira Clinkscale added 6 points for PSA.
