PSA pg 5 10-3-19

It was a light week on the PSA soccer schedule, as cancelled games left the school with just a pair of boys’ games on the docket.
Sept. 28, the prep team played — and won — its second straight over St. Thomas More. A week after a 5-1 drubbing, things were much closer the second time around as the Mustangs had to come from behind twice to record a 3-2 win.
After PSA fell behind 1-0, Alejandro Fondeur scored his first goal of the season to level the game at halftime. St. Thomas More went ahead again on a penalty kick, only to see the Mustangs respond again. Jesus Barea, who minutes earlier, missed a PK of his own, got PSA even at 2-2 with his fifth goal of the season, and Felipe Santos followed up with the game-winner for PSA.
“Coming from behind twice...it’s a win that helps to build character,” Mustangs coach Sam DeMello said after his team won for the fourth time in five games. “And it gives us more belief to always keep going no matter the result.”
Six of DeMello’s top players were unavailable for the game, meaning members of the school’s varsity team were pulled up. DeMello was pleased, to say the least, with what reserves gave him: “It was a great effort from all the Second Team guys who stepped in on short notice.”
One day earlier, that Second Team fell 6-5 to The Fessenden School (Mass.). David Menzies scored three times in the loss, the first of the season for the Mustangs against three wins. Josue de Leon and Javier Moscardo added goals for PSA.
“We played with 10, then two got hurt, so we played with eight,” said coach Ivan Damulira. “It was a big battle, we were just unlucky.”
