Robert R. Reichel,
Army Corps
WOODSTOCK — Robert R Reichel, 99, died Oct. 31, 2020, at home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1920, to Frank and Anna Reichel in New York City and completed school there. The next 10 years were spent in New Jersey that included a three-year stint in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was stationed at various times in Puerto Rico, California, the Philippine Islands, and Japan. His career turned to the construction industry where he traveled extensively throughout the New England states along with a two-year period where he worked in Venezuela. He eventually settled in Woodstock in 1952 when he married Patricia Judkins. She died in 1988.
He went to work in 1956 for the CT Department of Transportation, until his retirement in 1984. He then continued for years as a consultant for various engineering firms.
During his years in Woodstock he was active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Parent Teacher Association, Little League and WAACP organizations. He was a member of the Woodstock Democratic Town Committee as well as a Literacy Volunteer Tutor. He was active in the annual fund drives of the ARC of Quinebaug Valley. He was also a member and officer of the Woodstock Senior’s Club, and he was a member of the Woodstock Zoning Board of Appeals.
He leaves is son, Robert (Rick) Reichel of Woodstock, his daughter, Frances Reichel Falanga (Mark) of Woodstock; grandchildren, Christine Collins (Barry) of Woodstock, Joann Delp (Albert) of Manchester, Sandra Dauch (Keith) of Newington and Heather Beams of Norwich; great grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.
Burial in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling will held in the spring. Donations: Charity of one’s choice. Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam.
Dr. Edmond E. Morin
DANIELSON — Dr. Edmond E. Morin, 77, resident of Danielson and husband of Barbara A. Morin, died peacefully Nov. 1, 2020. Edmond was born on April 26, 1943, in Putnam, son of the late Edmond and Anita Morin. He was a graduate of Marianapolis Preparatory School (1961), and then attended Boston University where he studied biology before earning his Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine at New York Chiropractic College in Manhattan.
Ed returned to Connecticut shortly thereafter and established his first chiropractic practice in Putnam in his early 20s before setting up permanent practice in Dayville. He was certified in orthopedics and provided compassionate care to his patients for more than 35 years. He also served as secretary of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Chiropractic Association.
Ed loved to travel and had many hobbies. He was a collector of penny arcade trading cards and vintage coin-operated penny arcade machines.
Ed was also a lifelong student of history and in his retirement was an active participant in the Learning in Retirement program at QVCC where he gave legendary lectures on a wide variety of topics including the Oregon Trail, Hobo Life in America, and the Early Years of Motion Pictures. Family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and having intense games of Scrabble with his wife Barbara. He instilled the importance of education, he was always supportive.
He leaves his children, Donna Leon (Jorge) of Danielson, Karen Bradley (Scott) of Stafford Springs, and Craig Morin (Nancy) of Chesterfield, Va.; six grandchildren, Danielle Hutchinson and Emily Sweet, Kyle and Cory Bradley, and Cameron Swanson and Andrew Morin; two great-grandchildren, Harrison and Nevaeh Hutchinson; his sister Janice Starenchak of Citrus Grove, Fla.; sister-in-law, Yvonne Vigeant (Raymond Jr.) of Danielson. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Barbara.
A graveside service was held in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam. Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam.
