PUTNAM —Ta’Quan Zimmerman made an impact when he arrived at Putnam Science Academy and put on a Mustang uniform. Zimmerman attended PSA after growing up in Waterbury for the 2009-2010 season and did not disappoint averaging over 27 points per game, which still remains as the highest scoring average in Mustang history. Zimmerman then went on to play basketball professionally in Canada before he received a call at the end of the summer last year about his induction into the Putnam Science Academy Hall of Fame as a member of the Inaugural class. Since his induction, Ta’Quan or his nickname on the court “Tootie” Zimmerman has been busy.
Tootie started the “Ta’Quan Zimmerman Foundation” and was this year’s guest speaker at Putnam Science Academy’s graduation. Last year Zimmerman was the host of an Anti-Bullying Basketball Camp near his hometown of Waterbury called “Be A Baller Not a Bully”. The camp saw over 250 campers sign up for the week to participate in multiple skills and drills. “Growing up in Waterbury, everywhere you go you see a kid with a basketball” said Zimmerman. “I want this camp to be a no brainer and would love to see it keep growing as the years past.”
Ta’Quan is bringing the event back this year Aug. 5 to Aug. 9.
