Fun Runs

THOMPSON --- The Wednesday Fun runs will be held at the West Thompson Dam through Sept. 16. The runs/walks start at 6:15. All welcome.

 

‘Touring’ Exhibit

WOODSTOCK --- Historic New England’s new exhibit “Touring New England, 1820 – 1970” opens today and runs through Oct. 15 at  Roseland Cottage, in the Carriage Barn. It explores why the region’s natural and built environments have been tourist destinations for centuries. The exhibit touches on the distinct characteristics of each New England state: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  Free.

Fund-raiser ‘Scoops’

PUTNAM --- The Celebrity Scoops Night at Deary Bros./Mike’s Stand on Intervale Street  will be held at 6 p.m. Rain date Aug. 6. Benefits the Deary Memorial Cancer fund.

'Spamalot'

Art Show

THOMPSON --- The Thompson Public Library will present Art @ the Library, “Double Exposure,” photography by Karen Leaf and Norm Aubin through Aug. 30. Fund-raiser

WILLIMANTIC --- Windham Arts will present “Once In A Blue Moon Music Jam” fund-raiser to support and promote the Arts, History, Culture and Tourism in northeastern CT from 6 to 10 p.m. in Jillson Square.  Free. Sponsored by a donation from The Lester E. & Phyllis M. Foster Foundation and David Foster & Shaboo Productions.  Bring a chair or blanket.  No large backpacks, bags or outside alcohol will be permitted.

CHEPACHET --- The Steere Family Association will celebrate the 85th anniversary of the first Steere Family Reunion. As part of this celebration, it will sponsor an organ concert open to the public without charge at 7 p.m. at the Chepachet Meeting House, home to the Chepachet Baptist Church.

PUTNAM --- The Putnam Business Association will present First Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Putnam. This month's theme is the '60s.

Commemoration

PUTNAM --- The Aspinock Historical Society will celebrate WWII and its end with a Wall of Remembrance plus items from the various exhibits from throughout the commemoration. At 7 pm. The Little Big Band will perform music from the era. 

 

River Fire 

PUTNAM --- The town of Putnam will present River Fire from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at Rotary Park. Free. 

 

Deary Race

PUTNAM --- The 26th annual Deary Memorial Race, Walk and ride will be held at 9 a.m. starting at J.D. Cooper’s Restaurant. Benefits the Deary Memorial Cancer Fund. 

 

Clothing Give-Away

Frog Fest Fund-raiser

N. GROSVENORDALE --- Council 2087 of the Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Frog Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. The highlight will be the fourth annual French River Frog Regatta frog race, with proceeds supporting Council 2087’s charitable activities and academic programs at St. Joseph School in N. W. THOMPSON --- TLGV Member Program will present “The Night Sky Over The Last Green Valley” from 8 to 11 p.m. at West Thompson Dam & Rec Area. Astronomer Geoff McLean and members of the Thames Amateur Astronomical Society will share the wonders of The Last Green Valley dark night sky, in dark field to provide excellent views of deep space objects.
