Fun Runs

THOMPSON --- The Wednesday Fun runs will be held at the West Thompson Dam through Sept. 16. The runs/walks start at 6:15. All welcome.

‘Touring’ Exhibit

WOODSTOCK --- Historic New England’s new exhibit “Touring New England, 1820 – 1970” opens today and runs through Oct. 15 at Roseland Cottage, in the Carriage Barn. It explores why the region’s natural and built environments have been tourist destinations for centuries. The exhibit touches on the distinct characteristics of each New England state: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Free.

Art Exhibit

POMFRET --- The Northeast Connecticut Art Guild will be presenting an exhibit, featuring local artists, through Sept. 27 at the CT Audubon Society Center at Pomfret. Free. A portion of the proceeds benefits the society. 860-928-4948

THOMPSON --- The Friends of the Library’s Art @ the Library will present fibers and photos by Al and Lynn Landry through Sept. 29 at the Thompson Public Library. A reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 9.

PUTNAM --- The personal work of Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Annie Joly, professor and program coordinator of visual arts, and Eric Spencer, adjunct art faculty, will be featured at the Silver Circle Art Gallery in downtown Putnam through the month of September.

EASTFORD --- The Eastford Public Library will sponsor a “Tour the Grove Cemetery” at noon at the cemetery on Rt. 198. Learn about the history of Eastford families, past and present.

PUTNAM --- The annual Putnam Family Day will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at Rotary Park.

Mum, Bake Sale

BROOKLYN --- The Friends of the Brooklyn Library will sponsor a Mum and Bakes Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Rt. 6 near the center of Brooklyn on the front lawn of the Federated Church. Finnish coffee bread and $5 mums.

Survivorship Day

PUTNAM --- Day Kimball Healthcare will host its annual Cancer Survivorship Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Day Kimball Hospital, Fields Conference Rooms. Free. Soaring Club

DANIELSON --- The Boston and Connecticut Soaring Clubs will host an open house and competition at the Danielson Airport all day. Most gliders will be lined up for launch between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m and there will be landings and launches throughout the day. Book Sale

N. GROSVENORDALE ---The Friends of the Thompson Public Library is seeking donations for their Fall Book and Bake Sale which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the library on Rt. 12. Drop off during regular library hours. Hard cover and paperback books gladly accepted. Large print books and DVDs are in demand. No Reader's Digest Condensed Books, text books, encyclopedias or magazines. Book donations accepted after Aug. 24, until noon on Sept. 11. Individually wrapped baked good donations accepted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 and the morning of the sale.
