honored for
The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) recently received congratulations from the National Park Service for the great strokes forward the organization has taken over the last five years in creating an exemplary water trails network on the three major rivers of The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.
TLGV and its partners have extended the original designation of the Quinebaug River Water Trail National Recreation Trail to 45 miles, added a take-out this year that extended the Willimantic River Water Trail National Recreation Trail by 1.3 miles to downtown Willimantic, and placed the Shetucket River Water Trail on the verge of designation as a National Recreation Trail in 2016.
This all happened thanks to the helping hands of many partner organizations and volunteers. Launches and portages were assessed, stewardship plans prepared, two beautiful and informative paddle guides were created, and three National Recreation Trail nominations were submitted. In addition, the water trails steering committee formed in 2009 for the Source to Sea event continues to meet and guide water trail development, maintenance, and events in The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.
The passion and hard work by TLGV staff and volunteers has provided close to 90 miles of wonderful water trails for residents, visitors and the National Trails System.
