PUTNAM — The Lady Mustangs added an inside out duo from New York this week. Coach Derek Marchione announced that Niya Fields (Peekskill HS) and Abigail Robinson (Mount Vernon HS) will be attending Putnam Science Academy this fall. Both currently play with one of the most respected AAU programs out of New York City, the Lady Choz.
Niya Fields, a Class of 2020 guard, comes to PSA after playing varsity at Peekskill High School as both an eighth grader and freshman. The 5-foot, 8-inch point is already catching the attention of power five school and coach Marchione expects that interest to only pick up.
“Niya is a great addition to our program. She easily could have stayed at Peekskill, but she wants to be challenged even more. I think that says a lot about her and that drive will get her where she wants to go.”
Abigail Robinson, a 6-1 post from Mount Vernon High School, will re-classify from the Class of 2019 to 2020. Robinson arrives at PSA as an unfinished product, but with a ton of potential that Marchione thinks will come out sooner rather than later.
“Abigail has all the tools to succeed, it’s just a matter of continuing to work and gaining experience. She will really benefit from having to compete everyday in practice against girls that are not only the same size, but also older. I can’t wait to start working with her.” Marchione said.
