N. GROSVENORDALE — Sarah Uwazany of Marianapolis Preparatory School, was honored as the 2017 recipient of the Fran Roy Memorial TEEG scholarship. This scholarship, established in 2004, and officially named the Fran Roy Memorial Scholarship in 2016, is in memory of one of TEEG’s founding members- Fran Roy
Roy served TEEG, holding each office and a seat on the board of Directors for 26 years.
Uwazany was presented the award by Dan Roy; husband of Fran, June 27.
The Fran Roy Memorial Scholarship is designed to honor graduating students pursuing further education from Thompson, Woodstock and Pomfret who have excelled in the area of community activism through work in their schools and communities, qualities that Fran herself embodied.
Uwazany was honored for her work with St. Vincent’s Hospital as a teen volunteer where she worked in the hospital pharmacy. Uwazany was also a regular volunteer at P.A.W.S Cat Shelter in Woodstock where she dedicated her time to taking care of the animals, as well as helping them find their forever homes, and an assistant CCD teacher at Most Holy Trinity in Pomfret. Collectively Uwazany dedicated more than 250 hours of her time giving back to the community.
