The annual Woodstock Academy Winter Sports Award Night was March 22 in the Bates Auditorium on North Campus.
The Academy honored its student-athletes who made this long winter certainly more enjoyable.
There were plenty of highlights to talk about.
The gymnastics team won its eighth consecutive state championship, taking the Class S title home from Pomperaug High School in Southbury. That qualified the team for the State Open championship where the Centaurs finished second. It earned them a trip to New Hampshire where they finished sixth in the New England championship. The girls also won their ninth straight Eastern Connecticut Conference title.
The Gold prep basketball team, in its inaugural season, made it to the National Prep Championship semifinals.
The Centaurs girls’ basketball team made a great run to the Class L quarterfinals for a second consecutive year. It also captured the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II crown.
The boys’ basketball team, after a 2-8 start, rallied in the second half of the season and played in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II championship game.
Coaches honored individual athletes with the Coach’s award. The award is given to a player(s) who demonstrate a hardworking, unselfish, positive and competitive attitude and a player who, in the judgement of the coach, is a model participant for others to follow.
