EASTFORD — Lauren Anderson of Eastford will be inducted into the University of Rhode Island (URI) Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2019.  She will be honored for her work as a coach/administrator for decades in southern New England.
Her professional accomplishments include:
At URI: Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator, from 2003 to 2008 and associate director from 1992 to 2003; head coach of women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field from 1977 to 1992 with many championships. She started the URI women’s cross country program and the indoor track and field program and others.
At North Haven High School in North Haven, CT:
Physical Education teacher from 1967-1977. She started the girls’ track and field program and served as head coach. She was also coach of the champion basketball team and field hockey teams and also served as director of athletics. She was the first female high school athletic director in Connecticut.
She served on many national and state teams and boards and won many honors.
She is a graduate of Woodstock Academy where she was won the Outstanding Four Year Girl Athlete Award. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 1967 and her master’s from SCSU in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1971
