POMFRET — It’s been 5 years since a Pomfret School cross country runner has cracked the top 10 at the competitive varsity only Canterbury Invitational race. This year’s field featured 18 teams, a total of 123 runners. Senior co-captain Jeffrey Gibbs has some ambitious running goals this season, and he executed a sterling performance. On a day where many in the field — most Griffins included — surrendered to the heat, Gibbs managed to run 18:32, a sub 6 minute/mile pace and just 12 seconds off his PR.
His teammates had a tough go of it. There was no shortage of effort on their part and unfortunately, that wasn’t good enough.
Pomfret finished a disappointing 13th out of 18 teams.
The winning time was posted by Ehtan Puc of Chase Collegiate who blistered the 5K course in 16:06, a 5:11/mi. pace. Two Marianapolis runners took second and third.
