Liquor store open
in E. Putnam

PUTNAM --- It's more like Putnam picked him. Gary Trombley, owner of the newly opened Big Gary's Discount Liquors, said he got a call the owner of Wine Cellars Spirit Shop who asked if Trombley would be interested in buying his business.
Trombley bought the stock and permit from Dave Paguga and opened Big Gary's Discount Liquors on Rt. 44, next to Tractor Supply.
The 5,000-square-foot shop opened in mid April and Trombley said the response so far has been "tremendous."
He picked the Rt. 44 location in East Putnam because it was basically a need he saw for the area. "I saw a need for it in this area," he said.
Trombley said he's had many liquor stores including stores in Norwich and Griswold. He currently has the Putnam location and one in Uncasville.
"This is my 28th year being self employed," he said. This is the seventh store he said he's "built by hand."
"I'm very happy with the response in Putnam," he added.
