POMFRET — Three Catholic men from Windham will soon be putting their faith into action, with an assist from their new friends from the Knights of Columbus.
They were inducted into the Catholic fraternal group during a private ceremony April 17 at Most Holy Trinity Church. After completing the ceremonies, Thomas Cretella, Robert Ferrigno and Benjamin Shires joined San Jose Council 14, Knights of Columbus, in Willimantic.
The induction ceremony was conducted by an experienced team of Knights from Cargill Council 64, headquartered at the council’s hall on Providence Street in Putnam. The team usually conducts four or five ceremonies there annually, but they perform at least once a year on the road – this time in Pomfret. Cargill Council serves Most Holy Trinity Church, as well as St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam.
Cargill Council 64 and San Jose Council 14 have been working together since way back in 1892, when a group of Knights from San Jose Council traveled by train from Willimantic to Putnam to conduct the ceremonies that founded Cargill Council.
“It’s good that you’re here from Willimantic and we can return the favor,” Cargill Council 64 ceremonial team member Robert E. Desrosiers, of Putnam, told the new members, after filling them in on the history. “We’re proud to do this for you.”
