Killingly wins

The Killingly football offense came to life with a big win as the Redmen appear to be the only northeastern Connecticut team with the postseason in its future.  Killingly raised its record to 7-1 with two games remaining in the regular season, easily disposing of East Lyme.  The victory likely will solidify the Redmen’s position in the Class M CIAC postseason point rankings.

Plainfield picked up win number five on the season with an out-of-conference victory over CREC Co-op.  The Panthers are a solid football team who with a couple of breaks could easily have a much better record.  

Woodstock, facing a true test in determining who they are, lost to Eastern Connecticut Conference Griswold.  Once again the Acads demonstrated that they could score but the holes in the defense were the difference. 

Struggling Quinebaug Valley Pride fell hard once again, dropping to 1-7 on the season.

Pomfret in its unique 8-on-8 four team football league rolled over Forman School.  The win puts the Golden Griffins in the initial league championship contest against Gunnery School, a team that’s beaten them twice this season.    

Killingly Romps Over East Lyme

Following last minute victories in its last two games, Killingly wasted little time in easily disposing of the East Lyme Vikings 56-6 in a game played on the road.

The Redmen jumped out to a 35-0 halftime advantage forcing officials to play the second half of the game under the “running clock” rule.  Led by Spencer Lockwood, who regained his early season running prowess, Killingly showed the form it had displayed in the initial portion of its schedule in racking up the victory.

Lockwood scored four touchdowns, on runs of 8, 12 and 36 yards and on an aerial touchdown of 31 yards from quarterback Kyle Derosier.  On the evening Lockwood amassed 199 yards on 26 carries.  He now has 1,393 yards in eight games.

Signal caller Derosier also had a rebound performance, passing for 96 yards on a 6-for-10 evening.  In addition to his touchdown toss to Lockwood, he also found big tight end Jake Gauthier on a 5-yard touchdown hookup.

Bret Long, who is emerging as coach Chad Neal’s secret weapon, opened the scoring with a 17-yard TD scamper.  On the defensive side of the pigskin, Long then tallied on a 38-yard pass interception.  The last Killingly score came in the final stanza when Dylan Sanford raced to the end zone on a 40-yard run.  Place kicker Luke Desaulnier enjoyed a perfect evening, converting on 8-of-8 PATs.

The win lifts Killingly to 7-1 on the season with two games remaining.  On Friday the Redmen entertain the visiting 3-5 Fitch Falcons under the arcs in a 6:30 p.m. contest.  The final game of the season for the Redmen is on Thanksgiving morning against the Quinebaug Valley Pride.

Robinson Leads Panthers Over CREC

Plainfield quarterback Marcus Robinson enjoyed a banner day as he led the Plainfield Panthers to a 34-12 win over CREC Co-op in a game played in Enfield.  The win puts the Panthers at 5-3 on the season with its Thanksgiving showdown against archrival Griswold looming in the future.

Robinson, who threw for three touchdown passes, opened the game with a 15-yard scoring toss to Chris Peasley.  Before the first quarter ended Robinson went to work again with a 25-yard scoring strike to runningback Cam Gonzales.  Robinson and Gonzales would hook up again in the final stanza on a 12-yard aerial connection.

Sandwiched in between the two Robinson to Gonzales tallies, the Panthers had touchdown runs of 15 and two yards from Kegan Marcoux and Devin McGale.

The Panthers next game is a Veterans Day encounter at home against a very competitive 5-2 Waterford team at 6:30 p.m. under the lights.

Woodstock Falls to Griswold in High Scoring Affair

Woodstock Academy fell to the Griswold Wolverines 35-22 at home despite the fact that the ECC visitors were whistled for 157 yards on 13 penalties.  Although Griswold was heavily penalized, it managed to go off with a 28-8 halftime advantage.

Woodstock played the entire second half without two of its standout performers, Kameron Janice and Jared Bouten.  Janice, who had a touchdown on a 13-73 day, came off the field with an undisclosed injury.  Bouten was replaced by sophomore Derek Thompson late in the first half.

Thompson justified his coach’s trust in him by completing 13 of 24 attempts and 204 yards.  He had second half touchdown tosses to Mason Defocy of 66 yards and Caleb Bowen of 48 yards.

The loss levels Woodstock’s record at 4-4.  On Saturday, the Centaurs travel to Windham for another tough contest.  The Whippets are 5-2 on the season.   

QVP Loses Big-time to Cheney Tech

The Quinebaug Valley Pride traveled to Manchester for a contest against Cheney Tech and was beaten 39-6.  The Pride played Cheney even in the first quarter before the Techsters opened the floodgates, scoring three second period touchdowns.  From that juncture on it was “Katie bar the door.”

The lone bright spot in the game for the Pride was an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jacob Talbot late in the game.

The loss drops the Pride to 1-7 on the season as it prepares to entertain visiting Wilcox Tech on Friday in a 6 p.m. encounter under the lights.

Pomfret Closes Out Regular Season with Big Win

Pomfret School fell behind Foran School 6-0 in the early going of the game in Torrington but then responded with 46 unanswered points in a 46-6 lopsided victory.  The win gives Pomfret a 4-2 log in the initial season of the unique eight-man football league.

Quarterback Jack Paulson (10-18-133) threw for one touchdown and ran for another.  Thos Kuffour, who had five catches for 62 yards, was on the receiving end of the TD toss.  Paulson’s touchdown tally came on a run of 62 yards.  Owen McDevitt had a great ground game for the Golden Griffins, rushing for two scores.
