W.HARTFORD — Several local students were named to the University of Hartford dean’s list for fall 2017: Jennifer White of Dayville, Destynie Medeiros of Eastford, Crystelle Ranhoff of Pomfret Center, Nicholas Foucault of Putnam, Abigail Orn of Putnam, and Jason Brule of Woodstock Valley.

Local radio legend and owner of WINY radio, Gary Osbrey, volunteered part of his morning and 40 years of broadcasting experience to 8th graders at Pomfret Community School. After a brief introduction, Gary had the students interviewing him. You could hear a pin drop, as an on the spot interview of Sarah Cleverdon, Social Studies teacher and 8th grade advisor, skillfully unfolded. PCS principal, Susan Imschweiler, and the PCS PTO, allocated grants to fund the Eagle’s Lens — a first of its kind at PCS 60 Minutes-ish TV news show focused on the PCS community. Students will be handling as much of the production as possible from scripting to filming to graphics to editing to interviewing, and as the episodes number up, teaching the next crop of talent.
