PUTNAM ---  The Special Olympics Connecticut announced that Christine Wrobel of Putnam was awarded the Spirit of Life Award.  The award is presented to the athlete that exemplifies the true meaning of Special Olympics.
Wrobel has been involved with Special Olympics Connecticut for more than 15 years and is affiliated with the Quinebaug Valley Special Olympics team. She participates in unified softball, unified bowling, cycling, and floor hockey.  Four years ago she formed a life changing relationship with unified softball partners Elaine and Mike Summers. Spending time with the Summers, Wrobel began evolving as both an athlete and a person. The Summers involve Wrobel in family events and traditions, and spend time outside of Special Olympics either bowling, or going to Dunkin Donuts for a cup of joe.
Through the Summers support and love, Christine is able to carry herself with confidence and has a new found belief in her abilities. She has turned into a supportive individual, cheering on teammates regardless of the final score. Wrobel has turned into a shining star for the Quinebaug Valley team and is a wonderful ambassador for spreading the mission of the Special Olympics. As an individual her ability to grow regardless of life’s obstacles makes her an ideal candidate for the Spirit of Life Award.
