PUTNAM --- Earlier this month, Putnam Mayor, Robert Viens, presented Day Kimball Healthcare’s Nutritional Services Department with a Mayoral Proclamation officially declaring March as National Nutrition Month for Putnam and Day Kimball Healthcare.
National Nutrition Month® is a national nutrition education and information campaign held every March to spread the word about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise. This year’s theme is “Nutrition from the Ground Up,” for inspiration to get back to the basics by focusing on whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy, lean meats, healthy portion size and staying active.
Throughout the month, Day Kimball’s nutritional services department has been providing facts about the nutrition information in the hospital’s food as well as educational articles for employees about nutrition and staying healthy. The Mayoral Proclamation reinforces the Town of Putnam’s support of nutrition concepts.
“As a dietitian I feel it’s vital to recognize the importance of nutrition in overall health, wellness and promotion of good quality of life,” said Katie Defoe, registered dietician.  “I like to think of National Nutrition Month as an opportunity to re-focus attention on the benefits of making educated food choices and developing healthy eating practices.”
