PUTNAM --- Known as “the voice of Day Kimball” for more than 38 years, Barbara Poulin, switchboard operator, has been awarded Day Kimball Hospital’s the Employee of the Month award for March, just in time for her retirement.
“This is a special honor,” said Poulin. “After working here so many years, I have become very attached to the employees and the volunteers. I only hope that my work at the switchboard has been an asset to Day Kimball Hospital.”
Aside from being the first person callers speak to when calling the hospital’s main telephone number and reaching the switchboard, Poulin’s is the first face visitors see upon entering the hospital’s main entrance. With call volume averaging more than 1,000 calls per day, Poulin’s responsibilities include more tasks than answering and directing these calls to the appropriate parties. She is also responsible directing all visitors to their destinations and notifying appropriate teams within the hospital if there is an emergency situation.
“Barbara is a dedicated Day Kimball employee and is very deserving of this award,” said Sarah Ginnetti, director of revenue cycle. “She maintains her poise during the most stressful situations and is a key link to many vital operations within the organization. We are so pleased that she has been selected for this appropriate honor.”
Before coming to Day Kimball in the 1970’s, Poulin worked for SNET Phone Company as an operator. After more than 38 years at Day Kimball, Poulin will retire this December. Currently living in Putnam, she plans to travel, garden and enjoy her grandchildren during retirement.
