Laurie Ann
(Rasicot) Champany
POMFRET — On March 19, 2010, Laurie A. Champany, 41, of Pomfret died as a result of breast cancer complications.
She was born March 1, 1969, daughter of Robert and Diane Rasicot of Willimantic.
Laurie’s community service included serving on the Pomfret Community School Board of Education and the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees. She was also a Girl Scout Troop leader and was very involved with Woodstock’s Relay For Life. She was proud to have attained her black belt in karate even while undergoing chemotherapy.
The most important thing in her life was her family. After 16 years of marriage she was still the beautiful bride of Ben Champany who never failed to remind her so. She so loved and was very proud of her children, Liam and Lexie. In addition to her devoted parents, she also leaves sisters Lisa Hawthorne, her children Chelsea and Ciara of Brooklyn, Tammy Girardin, her husband Tom and their children Jacob and Matthew of Deltona, Fla.; grandmother, Florence Desjarlais of N. Windham; in-laws Ronald and Beverly Champany and the Champany family of Pomfret.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. March 26 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. All who knew Laurie are invited to come and celebrate her life at 3 p.m. March 27 at the Pomfret Community School Cafeteria. Paul J. Cartier,

DAYVILLE — Paul J. Cartier, 71, of Charlton Avenue, died unexpectedly March 13, 2010, at home. He was the husband of Mary (Hildreth) Cartier.
He was born April 24, 1938, in Putnam, son of the late George E. and Cecile (Rondeau) Cartier. Paul worked as a printer at the former Putnam Patriot Newspaper and then the Patriot Observer. He was later employed at the Dempsey Center in Putnam working in maintenance for over 17 years. He served for several years in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Paul has made his home in Dayville for the last nine years moving to there from Pomfret. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He also took pleasure in woodworking.
He leaves his wife of 50 years Mary; children Monique Mooney and her husband Michael of Voluntown, Paul J. Cartier II and his wife Shannon of Storrs; grandchildren Jerry, Evan, Jillian, Reid, and Brynn.

Angelo Palazzo,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Angelo Palazzo, 89, of Riverside Drive., died March 15, 2010, in Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of Agnes (Brodeur) Palazzo. Born in 1920 in West Warwick, R.I., he was the son of the late Guisseppe and Antoinette Palazzo.
Mr. Palazzo was a WWII Army veteran, and then went on to work as a salesperson in the several retail stores. He was the past president of the Putnam Lions Club and served as chaplin for the Putnam Elks Club. Mr. Palazzo was very active in the formation of the Putnam Little League, and enjoyed gardening and golf.
In addition to his wife, Angelo leaves his daughters, Mary Palazzo of East Longmeadow, Mass., Angela Dwyer of Dudley, Rose Gagnon of Woodstock, and Christine Kingsbury of Thompson; stepson, David Szpyrka of Plainfield; sisters, Josephine, Anna, Theresa and Ursala; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Clement J. “Sonny” Palazzo.
The Mass of Christian Burial was March 19 at St. Mary Church of the Visitation with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.
Gary D. Martel,

WOODSTOCK — Gary D. Martel, 46, of Woodstock Avenue, died unexpectedly March 15, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was born July 21, 1963, in Putnam, son of Elizabeth (Aubin) Martel and the late Delphis Martel Sr.
He made his home in Putnam most of his life. He was a truck driver for the Fairview Farm in Woodstock. Gary’s hobbies and likes were Monster trucks, off-roading, hot rods and fixing up cars. He attended Woodstock Grammar School and graduated from Ellis Technical School, Danielson, in 1981 as a mechanic.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his companion of 15 years, Kathleen Dunn; daughters, Jacqueline Martel of Danielson, Jennifer Provost of Dayville; siblings, Joseph Martel, Norman Martel, Roger Martel, all of Woodstock, Robert Martel of Garland, Texas, Joann Martel of Putnam, Betty Brison of Dayville; granddaughters, Madilyn and Kaelyn Provost. He was predeceased by brothers, Ronald and Delphis Jr. and father Delphis Sr.

Lorraine J. Zagaski,

PUTNAM — Lorraine J. Zagaski, 80, of Putnam, died March 4, 2010, at the Westview Nursing Home in Dayville. She was the wife of the late Stanley Zagaski who died in 1996.
Born Dec. 20, 1929, in Warren, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Victoria (Poitras) Paquette. Lorraine was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Putnam, St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich and St. John Church in Uncasville. She was employed for over 22 years, at John Meyer Company in Norwich. She had made her home in Uncasville and Norwich for many years.
She was predeceased by her brother Norman Paquette in 1992. She leaves only cousins.

Paul P. Majercik,

WILSONVILLE — Paul P. Majercik, 85, of Pompeo Road, died March 18, 2010, at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Evelyn F. (Henault) Majercik who died September 2006.
He was retired from Nichols College where he worked in maintenance for many years and prior to that Packard Woolen. He was a WWII Army veteran.
He leaves a son Gary Majercik of Murphy, N.C.; daughter Christine Adams of Attawaugan; two grandsons and a great-granddaughter; sister Sophie Majercik of Webster. He is predeceased by 11 brothers and sister.
The Funeral Mass was March 24 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Dudley, with burial with military honors in St. Anthony Cemetery, Webster. Shaw Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
Catherine Foskett,

WOODSTOCK — Catherine M. (Munro) Foskett, 99, formerly of Route 169, died March 18, 2010, at Webster Manor.
She was the wife of the late Howard W. Foskett, who died July 1, 1996.
She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of the late James A. and Susan (Potter) Munro and lived in Woodstock for the past 76 years prior to that living in Yonkers, N.Y. She was a member of the Senexet Grange 40 in Woodstock and the E. Woodstock Congregational Church.
She leaves two daughters, Eleanor M. Bates of Webster and Joyce Potter of Port Charlotte, Fla.; son, Kenneth N. Foskett of Woodstock; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Violet Anderson.
The Funeral was March 24 at the E. Woodstock Congregational Church with burial in Center Cemetery, Woodstock. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
John Craver,

DUDLEY - John Elliott Craver, 85, of Dudley, died March 17, 2010, in Overlook Masonic Health Center, Charlton, after an illness.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Edgar A. and Marjory E. (Parsons) Craver, and lived in Webster and Dudley all his life. He attended Bartlett High School and graduated from Vermont Academy. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Craver was a leather buyer for Bates Shoe Company and was the owner of Campbell Shoe Store in Portsmouth, N.H. He then was president of Perryville Realty and Westview Estates, Inc., before retiring.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Eleanor (Trull) Craver; four sons, E. Bates Craver and his wife Cheryl of Thompson, Robert T. Craver and his wife Robin of Webster, John N. Craver and his partner Jerry of Seattle, and Benjamin A. Craver and his wife Elizabeth of Dudley; 11 grandchildren; two great- grandsons.
A funeral service was March 20 with burial in Perryville Cemetery. Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, Webster.
