Putnam Little League players enjoyed a week of sunshine and warm days.It was a week full of bad hops and good plays for all of the players. At the end of the week the Police Association Pirates (2-1) took first place with the Chase Graphics Dodgers (2-2) dropping into third and the Vision Center Red Sox(1-2) in fifth place.
May 4 the Pirates and the Red Sox took it to the final batter when Josh Allard smacked a triple to the center field fence and stole home on a brazen chance to win the game 7-6. Josh also pitched until the second inning when Kyle Ciquera muscled a towering home run out of Murphy Park. JonLuc Cournoyer came in as relief and was credited with the win for the Pirates. JonLuc also helped himself with a double to the right field fence. Nicholas Foucault pitched well for the Red Sox piling up 10 strikeouts for the game. Aiden Ciquera had the defensive play of the game with a backhand stop behind second base a a quick throw to first. Jacob Prescott and Brevon Harmon continue to impress everyone with with their great defense.
The Sunshine ended May 8 and Mother Nature brought in thunderstorms which forced a day of cancelled/postponed games. The Red Sox and Pirates will resume their series in two weeks.
The Pirates and Red Sox both traveled to Brooklyn for inter-league play, each taking home a win. The Red Sox scored early and often in their 18-10 win over the Brooklyn Rampage. Aiden Ciquera and Kristian Burke pitched well for the Sox and offense came from every spot in the lineup. Timim Aldarawcheh, Jacob Brule, Nathan Tozzi, Reed Hopkins and Kyle Ciquera all scored for Putnam. Tristan Vanscoy had a multiple hit game.The Pirates held out for a 10-6 win over the Brooklyn Predators. Noah Mailloux and Joshua Allard both hit triples and Jacob Prescott, Scott Davagian and Jacob Straub all pitched well for Putnam. Angelo Desalvio and Zach Cutler each had web gem plays on defense.
May 3 Jacob Guertin led the Chase Graphics Dodgers to victory over the Pomfret Dodgers 16-3. Jacob pitched a complete game and struck out 11 batters over six innings. Shawn Audet went 3-3 and scored three times Steven Dakai hit a homerun and scored three runs.Andy Simmons singled and scored a run,Ryan Renshaw had three walks and three runs. Wednesday night the Dodgers hosted the Brooklyn Predators with Shawn Audet and Cole Andersen combining for the 15-2 win. Shawn also hit a home run and scored two runs. Kyle Loomis joined the hit parade hitting his first homerun of the year scoring Cole who scored four times. Steven Dakai hit two doubles and a triple and Kyle Moore earned the game ball for his first hit and heads up play in the outfield. Kyle started a relay to Shawn Audet and the onto the catcher Jacob Guertin who made a tag at the plate to end a Brooklyn rally.
May 7 the Pomfret Dodgers returned with their ace, Conor Hanlon on the mound. Conor held the Putnam squad to two hits enroute to a 5-0 shut out. Cole Andersen was terrific in the field for Putnam and Shawn Audet came in to pitch in relief of Steven Dakai who took the loss.
