THOMPSON ---  The Marianapolis varsity baseball and softball teams capped off great seasons with championships. With both teams hosting their SENE Championship game at home, the diamonds in Thompson were full of energy and the Golden Knights backed up strong performances from the mound with big hits to take home the championships.
For boys’ varsity baseball, this was the first SENE title win since the Golden Knights entered the league more than 10 years ago. Sophomore Keisuke Ito pitched a great game and classmate Evan Cosentino hit a home run as the Golden Knights earned a 10-5 victory. Ito struck out the first seven batters he faced, and the bats came alive early and often, with Captain Mike Bodreau and freshman Andrew Gemme also contributing. Doug Daniels, who along with Treavor Smith, coaches the team, said, “This young team has worked hard to improve during the past three years, and they will continue to get better in the year ahead .”
Also on May 14, Marianapolis girls’ varsity softball team beat Williams 10-0, earning the Lady Golden Knights their fifth straight SENE title. Sophomore pitcher Sara Morrow threw a shutout for the game. Eric Reimann, who along with Joe Caccuapuoti coached the team to victory, commented “This was a special team this year.  All 12 players really cared for and worked hard not to disappoint each other. Every player performed their job when called upon and supported each other when we weren’t successful. Our two2 goals from the first meeting in January were to defend our SENE title and to host a WNEPSGSBA playoff game.  I could not be more proud of this group for accomplishing both goals this year.  With 11 out of 12 players returning, we now have our sights on conference title #6 and to be WNEPSGSBA Class B champions in 2011.“
