It was playoff week for the Sgt. Joseph Phaneuf Little League after an exciting season of competition. AT Murphy Park on Monday the Putnam Vision Red Sox defeated the Putnam Police Pirates to move on to the next round. Meanwhile, in Pomfret The Archambault Insurance Red Sox fought off a pesky Paquette Electric Tigers to move on.
The match June 9 in Pomfret was played in the rain as the Red Sox Jack Archambault faced Alec Aleszczyk of the Pete’s Drive-In Dodgers.
The Dodgers had earned a bye in the first round and Archambault came out firing as he held the Dodgers to two runs through the first three innings while the Red Sox put four runs on the board in the top of the third. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Dodgers took advantage of several base on balls and two doubles by Nate DeLuca followed by a triple by Kyle Lingard. The Dodgers scored  seven runs in the 4th to jump to a 9-4 lead. In the fifth the Dodgers added 3 more runs to win by the mercy rule with a final score of 14-4. Kyle Lingard reached base all four times at bat scoring 3 runs. Conor Hanlon came in relief to pick up the win to move the Dodgers to the championship game.
June 12 the Pete’s Drive-In Dodgers travelled to Putnam to watch the conclusion of the Putnam Vision- Chase Graphics game. A gutsy pitching performance by Nick Foulcout gave the Putnam Vision the pass to the Championship Game that afternoon in Pomfret.
In the Championship it was Christian Burke starting for Putnam Vision against Conor Hanlon for Pete’s Drive-In. Burke had the Pete’s team in a frenzy with off speed stuff as Putnam Vision jumped to a 1-0 lead. In the third inning the Dodgers bats went to work as Danny Harrington and Peter Calabrese started the inning with back to back hits. After a fielder’s choice Nate DeLuca and Kyle Lingard followed with back to back hits to give the Pete’s team a 2-1 lead. Conor Hanlon stepped up to bat and drilled his sixth home run of the season with two men on. With a 6-1 lead Hanlon went back to work on the mound and ended the game with 12 consecutive outs. Hanlon struck out nine in the game as it ended 6-2.
