May 25 and 26 were the League Meet of the QVCJV League.  This league is made up of 10 schools, Griswold who was the host of both meets, Woodstock, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Thompson, Putnam, St. Mary’s, St. James, Eastford and Pomfret.
At the end of the field events on the 25th, Griswold had the lead with 28 points with Thompson and Putnam tied for 2nd with 20 points and Brooklyn 3rd with 18.
As the hot day of the 26th progressed, Brooklyn outscored Griswold by one point.  Brooklyn was first with a score of 73 and Griswold second with 72.  Third place was Woodstock with a score of 58. Thompson was fourth with a score of 52; fifthplace was St. James with a score of 24. Putnam was sixth with a score of 22; tied for seventh were Eastford and Pomfret with a score of 12. Ninth went to St. Mary’s at 2 and 10th place was Canterbury.
For Putnam, 20 points were scored by eight grader Josh Simpson.  He scored 1st place in both the high jump and long jump.  Long jump being his highest jump of the season jumping 16 feet 3 inch.  Josh was normally a high jumper, but because the mats were destroyed by vandals in the fall, he had only  jumped officially at Woodstock and Griswold.  Coach Curt Prochowski wanted him to try long jump at Putnam’s home meets to see how much he could jump. And jump he could, most of the time coming in first place for Putnam.
But high jump, was his choice since he first joined the team as a 6th grader, with very little to no practice, it seems it has never left him since last season to take first place at the League Meet.
As for the ladies, Woodstock took first place with a score of 107 followed by Griswold in second with 70 and Thompson at third with 55.  Pomfret took fourth place with a score of 24; tie for fifth was Canterbury and St. James with a score of 20.  Brooklyn took seventh with a score of 15. Eighth  went to Eastford and St. Mary’s with a score to match, 8 and 10 was Putnam.
The Woodstock ladies took first in five out of 11 events including: high jump by Rachel Tomlinson; 4x1 team of Swenson, Luppi, Pillo, and Walker;  the 400: August Frechette;  the 100 by Sarah Swenson; the 200 by Sarah Simpson.
