THOMPSON — Frederick George Murphy, 83, of Wilsonville Road, died  July 28, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He was born in Thompson, son of the late Peter and Anita (Faucher) Murphy and lived in Thompson all his life.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was a retired corrections officer having worked at Somers Correctional Institution for the State of Connecticut.  He was a lifetime member of the K of C, a 4th degree Knight and was a member of the American Legion in Thompson.  He was also a member of the Community Fire Department.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Dorothy J. (McGuinness) Murphy of Thompson; a son, Patrick G. Murphy of Corpus Christi; a daughter, Kathleen J. Murphy of Thompson; a brother, Arthur Murphy of Thompson; three sisters, Jeannette Nedzweckas of Thompson, Dorothy McCormac of Putnam and Cecil Tetreault of Stanford; two granddaughters, Candace Murphy of Thompson and Caitlin Murphy of Maine; three grandsons, George F. Murphy of Thompson, Alex L. Murphy of Thompson and Andrew DeScisciolo of Dallas.

PUTNAM — Wesley Albert Parquette, newborn son of Brian and Julie (Rahaim) Parquette, died July 20, 2010,
He is the brother of Madalyn of Putnam; grandson of Lawrence and Christine (Marshall) Parquette of Putnam; Philip Rahaim of Northborough and Mary (Hellander) Rahaim Brown of Oakdale; great-grandson of Rosemary Parquette of Brooklyn, Kenneth and Lynn Marshall of Brooklyn, Albert and Joan (Ballentine) Rahaim of Northborough. A graveside service was July 30, at Munyan Cemetery, E. Putnam. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

William J. DeVito,
Ph.D.
WEBSTER — William Joseph DeVito, Ph.D., 61, died July 30, 2010, after a brief illness.
He was born in Newark, N.J., and was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam war. William graduated from Berkley Heights High School and Kean College, both in New Jersey. He then earned a master’s degree from SUNY Cortland, Cortland, N.Y., and a Ph.D degree from Syracuse University. Dr. DeVito was an endocrine physiologist and retired as an associate professor from the University of Massachusetts Medical School after 20 years. He was an avid golfer and a volunteer for the Massachusetts Golf Association. He was a loyal friend and enjoyed preparing wonderful gourmet meals for friends and family.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Dr. Karen S. Ammerman; his father, Peter DeVito of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Raymond DeVito of Salt Lake City, Utah, and David DeVito of New Jersey; and nephews and nieces and close friends in Putnam. His mother, Margaret (Walker) DeVito predeceased him. The Service was Aug. 3 in Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, Worcester. Dorothy T.  Peltier,

N. GROSVENORDALE —  Dorothy T.  Peltier, 80 of First Street died  July 27, 2010, in Worcester.  She was the wife of the late Theodore L. Peltier.
Born in 1930 in N. Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Duhamel and the late Lucy (Miskiavitch) Duhamel. 
Mrs. Peltier worked as a homemaker and took great pride in raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She also loved her cats.
She leaves two daughters, Barbara Heeps (Joseph), and Diane Peltier, all of N. Grosvenordale; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, Pamela, Angela and Joey and five great-grandchildren, Ambria, Katelyn, Jordan, Isabella and Anthony.  She was predeceased by her son Richard Peltier. 
The Mass of Christian Burial was July 30 in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.

Fred F. Bonvino,

QUINEBAUG — Fred F. Bonvino, 93, of Breezy Lane, died July 29, 2010, in Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam.  He was the husband of Lucrezia “Grace” (Zuccaro) Bonvino.
Born in 1917 in Ridgewood, Wisc., he was the son of the late Francisco and Paulina (Sigismondi) Bonvino.  At the age of 6, he and his family moved to Italy, where they lived until 1934.  Upon returning to the U.S.,  he spent many years living in New York where he married his wife in 1940.  In September, they would have been married for 70 years.  In 1962, he moved to Southbridge where he worked for American Optical as a lens sprayer until his retirement in 1981.  In 1972, he made his home in North Woodstock and finally Quinebaug in 2001.  He was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Ralph Bonvino, Lena DePalma, Sabina Turturro, Nicoletta Rucci, and Jennie Bonserio.
The Mass of Christian  Burial was Aug. 2 in St. Stephen Church, Quinebaug, with entombment in Notre Dame Chapel Mausoleum in Worcester. John McGovern,

PUTNAM — John H. McGovern, 76, of Putnam died July 21, 2010. He was born Feb. 12, 1934, in Putnam, the son of the late Elizabeth (Hurdman) and John T. McGovern.
Mr. McGovern worked as an upholsterer for Risom MFG for 25 years and for Hertzel until its closing. He was a good mason by trade. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being with his family.
He leaves his children, John E. McGovern of Woodstock, Michael H. McGovern of Webster, Judy A. McGovern Mossy (David Mossy Jr.), and Nancy M. McGovern Piasta of Webster; sisters, Vera Flight of Vermont and Jane Cartier of Arizona; his former wife Dolores McGovern of Thompson; four grandchildren, Angela, David, Ron and Garret.

READING, Vt. — Elizabeth Flugel Hill-Sweet, widow of the late Richard C. Sweet, of Reading, died on July 16, 2010, at home.
Born on Oct. 14, 1932, in Woodstock, she was a graduate of Woodstock Academy and Bryant College in Rhode Island.  She was employed as a secretary by American Optical Company, Southbridge, and as secretary to the president of the TODD-AO Corporation, NYC, in the 1950s. She joined Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company, Hartford, in 1955, as secretary to the vice president in charge of Sales and subsequently was corporate librarian, purchasing assistant, and retired as senior buyer-purchasing after 33 years of service.
Mrs. Sweet was a friend of the Old Stone Church, Reading; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Willimantic, Reading Historical Society member, Past President, Green Mountain Horse Association; a member of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association.  Active in politics, she served as chairperson of the Reading Republican Town Committee and was a member of the Executive Board of the Windsor County GOP. Mrs. Sweet served on the Reading Cemetery Commission.
She leaves her stepchildren Susan A. Sweet of Baltic, and Dr. Donald N. Sweet of York, Maine, and their families; a niece Candace Beck Tanner of Aptos, Calif., and nephews Henry M. Beck Jr., Esq. of Columbia, Curtis Hill Beck, DMD, of New Fairfield,and Randolph E. Beck of Atlanta.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Bailey’s Mill Cemetery, Reading.  Cabot Funeral Home,  Woodstock, Vt.

Donald Burton Sr.,
WWII vet
POMFRET — Donald F. Burton Sr. 86, of Cooney Road, died July 28, 2010, after a short battle with cancer. He was the husband of Shirley C. (Thomas) Burton. They were married on March 4, 1946. He was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Moosup, son of the late Francis and Flora (Wood) Burton. He attended the Sterling schools and PHS.
He worked in the CCC camps. He worked at Royal Metals, then at PWA. In 1943 he joined the armed services. He was one of the first to cross the bridge at Remagen. His Battle awards were from: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the Ninth Armor Division and part of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy.
After an honorable discharge he worked at Arrow-Hart as an inspector for 15 years. Then he worked at Underwriters Laboratories, where he was the senior field representative for 24 years, retiring in 1986.  He was a lector at St. Ignatius for over 20 years.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, he also loved hunting, fishing, was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. He was a former member of Pomfret Rod & Gun Club, Lions Club, WWII Tank Corps Association, VFW, selectman in Pomfret, member of the Board of Finance and Board of Education in Pomfret.
He leaves his wife Shirley of Pomfret; sons Donald Burton Jr. (Peggy) of Pomfret Center, Terence Burton of Bedford, N.H., sister Patricia Gulino (Joseph) of E. Hampton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was July 31 at St. Joseph Church, Dayville with burial with military honors  at St. Joseph Cemetery, Dayville. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St. Danielson.

DAYVILLE — Heidi J. Hicks, 37, of Putnam Pike, died unexpectedly July 28, 2010, at home. She was born Jan. 16, 197,3 in Worcester, daughter of Jacqueline  and Paul Bann and the late Roger Hicks.
Heidi was a CNA working at Haven Health, Villa Maria Nursing Homes and in Home Health Care.
She leaves her daughters: Brittany Ann Magnuson and Haeli Linn Lerch, both of Dayville; her mother Jacqueline Bann of North Hampton, N.H.; sister Tammy Provencal of North Hampton; brother, Shawn Hicks of Monroe, Ill.; nephews Cody Hicks, Seth Hicks, Zachary Provencal; niece Alexandra Provencal. She was predeceased by her stepfather Paul Bann.

DANIELSON — Robert K. Lyon, 54, of L’Homme Street, died July 27, 2010, at home. He was born Jan. 5, 195,6 in Putnam, son of the late Albert, Sr. and Lorretta A. (Herre) Lyon.
Robert was a truck driver, where he specialized in driving dump trucks.
He leaves his life partner, Gail (Bourbeau) Lyon of Danielson; daughters, Chrysse Baker (Gary) of Danielson and Miranda Hough (Sean) of Danielson; brothers, Bruce (Pat) Lyon of Woodstock and Ricky Lyon (Julie) of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Alyssa, Brandon, Samantha, Gabriella, Brianna; aunt, Barbara Herre.

Theresa LaRochelle,

BROOKLYN — Theresa LaRochelle, 86, formerly of Cundall Street, died July 30, 2010, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Plainfield.
She was the wife of the late Leo J. LaRochelle.
They were married Nov. 23, 1946. He died Oct. 31, 1988.
She was born June 26, 1924, in Woonsocket, R.I., daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Anna (Dufresne) Broudeur.
She attended Sacred Heart School in Wauregan. She was last employed at Superwinch in Putnam.
She had also worked at Acme Cotton in E. Killingly, and LaRosa in Danielson.
She worked as a seamstress at the former Gant Shirt Factory and at American Thread Company.
She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. Theresa enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She leaves her children, Robert LaRochelle of Brooklyn, Dennis LaRochelle of Hickory, N.C., Janice Loiselle of Central Village, Shirley LaRochelle of Brooklyn; sister Bernadette Billings of Danielson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.  Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson.
