PUTNAM --- For those of us old enough to remember bobby socks, poodle and ducktails, the smash musical “Grease” is an entertaining trip down memory lane. Now, the musical itself is entering middle age as 2011 marks its 40th year of performance. The locally produced version of “Grease” carries a bit of history with it when it opens at The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut’s Bradley Playhouse Aug. 6. David T. Panteleakos, who performed the title role of Danny Zuko as a high school senior and reprised his role at the Bradley in 1999, now serves as director of the 2010 Bradley show.
“It’s been an interesting progression through the years,” said Panteleakos. “When we were auditioning actors for this latest version of the show, it was amazing to see how the generation gap has widened. It was funny having to explain the meaning of some of the lines, songs, and actions to this group of talented but young actors! ”
“Grease” performances are at 8 p.m. Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 8, 15 and 22.
The Bradley Playhouse is at 30 Front St. (Rt. 44). Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students. Call 928-7887 for tickets. The Aug. 6 performance will benefit the Putnam Business Association. All tickets are $25 and include a pre-show reception from 5:30 to 7:30 behind the theatre in the Putnam Congregational Church parking lot. Local restaurants will provide the food and refreshments.
The Aug. 15 matinee will be held in conjunction with the Tri-State Cruisers Downtown Car Cruise. Parking for the theater that day will be in the  Putnam Discount Liquor parking lot (former Brooks Drug store)
