Shirley Burton,

POMFRET — Shirley C. Burton 85, of Cooney Road, died July 31, 2010. She was the wife of the late Donald F. Burton Sr. They were married March 4, 1946. He died July 28, 2010. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Putnam, daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Logan) Thomas. She was a devoted Catholic. She attended Goodyear School and Killingly High School Class of 1942.  She worked during the war as a welder in the Providence Shipyards, then worked in Willimantic at Pratt Whitney Aircraft and then at Rogers Corporation as a machine operator for over 30 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the U.S.
She leaves her sons, Donald  F. Burton Jr. (Peggy) of Pomfret Center, Terence Burton of Bedford, N.H.; sister, Dorothy Post of E. Killingly; grandchildren, Donald F. Burton III, Michael Burton, Kelly Burton LaRose, Julie Burton and Ben Burton; great-grandchildren, Ashley Tremblay, Cheyenne Gomes, Dakota Gomes, Anthony Gomes, Logan Burton.
The Funeral Mass was Aug. 4 at St. Joseph Church, Dayville, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dayville. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.

Roberta  Mayotte,

DANIELSON — Roberta “Robbie” J.  Mayotte, 43 of Picabo Street, died Aug. 1, 2010, at home after a courageous year and one-half  battle with brain cancer.  She was the wife of Michael Mayotte.
Born in 1967 in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Amelia (Leonardi) Hayes.  Raised in West Boylston, Robbie graduated from West Boylston High School and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Fitchburg State College.  She worked as a registered nurse for the VNA of Southern Worcester County.  Her warm smile will be remembered.
In addition to her husband, she leaves three children Dillon, Matthew, and Lauren all of Danielson; two brothers, Thomas Hayes and Dennis Hayes both of West Boylston; sister Suzanne Degnan of Dudley.

Clara S. Prieto,

PLAINFIELD — Clara S. Prieto, 66, of Windsor Avenue, died  Aug. 6, 2010, in the William Backus Hospital.  She was the wife of Ramon L. Garcia.  Born in 1943 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Clara (Roman) Prieto of Worcester and the late Cecilio Prieto.
In addition to her husband and mother, she leaves sons, Raymon L. Garcia of Plainfield, Jose A. Garcia of Plainfield, and Jose M. Garcia of New York; daughter, Ana Prieto of Plainfield; brothers and sisters; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 11 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.  A gathering will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 12 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.

Robert Brodeur,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Robert M. Brodeur, 81, of Pasay Road, died Aug. 3, 2010, at UMass Memorial Health Care – University Campus, Worcester.
He was born in Putnam, son of the late Henry and Lilie (Peterson) Brodeur and lived in N. Grosvenordale all his life.  He was a real estate agent, having owned Brodeur Realty from 1972 to 2005.  He also worked at Pratt & Whitney for 10 years as a machinist.
Bob was a life member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in N. Grosvenordale, served as a selectman in Thompson and was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.  He was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association at the Danielson Airport.  He has had his pilot license since 1946.  He enjoyed restoring antique aircraft.  In addition, he was an experienced cabinet maker, built guitars and banjos, and had a love for blue grass music.  He designed and built his log home.
He leaves his wife of 34 years, Stella M. (Paradis) Brodeur; five sons, Glen R. Brodeur (Renee) of Putnam, Richard Berube (Susan) of Stafford Springs, Bertrand Berube (Claire) of N. Grosvenordale, Norman Berube (Dorothy) of N. Grosvenordale, William Berube (Debra) of N. Grosvenordale; four daughters, Debra Randolph and her companion Jay Bretton of Dayville,Barbara Brodeur of Wauregan, Suzanne Rousseau (Richard) of Greene, Maine, and Nanette Berube of Wauregan; one brother, H. Wallace Brodeur of Winter Haven, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson.

James M. Patton,

BROOKLYN — James Michael Patton of Brooklyn, died peacefully Aug. 1, 2010, five days before his 86th birthday. He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in New Haven, son of Peter Paul and Marie (O’Donoghue) Patton.
Jan. 29, 1949, he was married to Marcella Marguerite Elizabeth Desmarais.
Jim was  an inveterate kidder who loved a good joke, and was a United States Marine (WWII). Above all, though, he was an Irishman.
In addition to his wife, he leaves sons, Mark Jeffrey Joseph Patton and his partner, Jean Blaser of Pomfret, Dennis Michael Patrick Patton of Brooklyn; daughter, Cathleen Ellen Bridget Wyman of Manchester, N.H.;  granddaughter Mariah Louise Wyman of Connellsville, Penn; sisters, Marie (Robert) Beach of Potomac, Md.; Eileen Deskin of Northford; brother, Michael Boyle of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his parents, his step-father Michael J. Boyle, two brothers, Peter and John.

THOMPSON — Helen Louise Corey Fontaine, 93, of Mountain Hill Road, died Aug. 4, 2010, at home. She was the wife of Ferdinand Fontaine. He died in 1987.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Hartford, daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Duety) Beers. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in N. Grosvenordale. She enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles.
She leaves her eight children: Virginia (Corey) Zaloudek (Bernard) of Coventry, R.I., Arthur “Buster” Corey Jr. (Patricia) of Putnam, Linda (Corey) Groh (Lawrence) of Thompson, Janice (Corey) Herrick of N. Grosvenordale (with whom she made her home), Nancy (Corey) Mahon (Edward) of Philadelphia, Tenn., Diane (Corey) Adams (James) of Wauregan, Alan Corey (Susan) of Union, Frank Corey of Brooklyn; sister Elizabeth Cowles of Avon; 30 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Lenny Maynard,
‘The Car Guy’
BROOKLYN — Leonard M. “Lenny” Maynard, 53, of Dawn Drive, died unexpectedly  Aug. 3, 2010. He was the son of Oie Maynard-Murd and the late Leo Maynard Jr. His father died in 1992.
 He was born July 5, 1957 in Putnam. He spent his youth in the Moosup area, a graduate of Plainfield High School and received his associate’s degree in advertising from the Mohegan Community College. Lenny worked for several years in advertising for the Norwich Bulletin and Journal Transcript. In 1989 he took a position as a car salesman with Markley Motors in Brooklyn and became known as “ Lenny, the Car Guy” and also worked at other auto dealerships in the area.
Lenny was an accomplished, gifted and talented musician. He played his keyboard entertaining many in local pubs and restaurants. He played many instruments including the accordion and concertina which came to him naturally.  Lenny played with the Heavy Chicago Band, the Midas Touch Orchestra and the Dick Pillar Polka Band in New York, Pennsylvania and New England. In his youth he recorded a Polka album. Lenny had a great personality and was a very likable person.
He leaves his mother Oie Maynard-Murd of Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam; children, Christopher M. Maynard and Catherine L. Maynard both of Plainfield; uncles, Robert Maynard of Brooklyn, Julius Vapper of Canterbury; aunts Maie Valma of Long Island, N.Y., Iola Kent of Rainsville, AL.
The Funeral was Aug. 7 with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wauregan.

Patricia Dugan,

POMFRET — Patricia Ann (Butler) Dugan, 72, of W. Boylston, Mass., and Pomfret, died Aug. 14 in UMass Medical Center.
She was born in Westfield, the daughter of Richard and Patricia (Logee) Butler and graduated from Commerce High School. Patricia worked at the New England Power Service Company and then the Town of W. Boylston as a police and fire dispatcher and police matron for over 20 years, retiring in 1997. She was an avid New England Patriots fan and enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
She leaves her husband of 44 years, James A. Dugan; a son, James J. Dugan (Cheryl) of W. Boylston; three daughters, Patricia A. Duddy (Kenneth) of Holden, Mass., her twin daughters, Cathleen Desauteles (Brian) of Holden and Colleen Bavosi (Daniel) of Pomfret; 10 grandchildren.
