Did you know that you can spray vegetable oil on your shovel to keep the snow from sticking? A good tip considering the winter that the 2011 Farmer's Almanac is predicting.
This year's winter is set to offer above normal precipitation, according to the almanac. And high winds will also visit for much of the upcoming winter months.
The almanac's predictions for November call for near normal precipitation and slightly above normal temperatures for November.
In December predictions are for normal temperatures and precipitation and after that it's above-normal precipitation all the way through April.
January's predictions call for near-normal temperatures and above normal precipitation. The coldest days of January will be Jan. 4-8, 13-17, 22 and 23 and Jan. 26-28, said the almanac. Snow will cover most of the Northeast and a major storm is predicted around Jan. 13 and 14.
In February, the almanac is calling for slightly warmer temperatures and --- you guessed it --- above-normal precipitation. The coldest days will be Feb. 6-10, 15-19, 22-23 and 26-28.
In March the temperatures will be near normal with the coldest days predicted for March 7-10, 14-18 and 25-29.
Temperatures near normal and higher than normal precipitation are on call for April, according to the almanac. The coolest temperatures are coming for April 3-7, 12-16, 20-21 and 29-30. It is predicted to be a cloudy month with flooding possible.
