Dairy Exhibit
WOODSTOCK --- "Farmers, Cows and the Land," an exhibition about the modern history of dairy farming in Connecticut,  is on display at the Roseland Cottage carriage barn through Oct. 15, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Free.

Fun Run

Art Exhibit
POMFRET --- The Northeastern Connecticut Art Guild will present an exhibit of members artworks at the Audubon Society on Rt. 169 through Sept. 30. Reception is 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 29. All welcome. This exhibit, "All Things Beautiful," is dedicated to the memory of Jane Lazendorfer.   She was a gifted artist, a lover of birds and wildlife, and a committed member of our art guild.

Puppetry Exhibit
STORRS --- The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry will present two exhibits, "Punch and Judy: Handpuppets, Politics and Humor," and "Frank and Elizabeth Haines: An American Puppet Theater in the 1930s," through Dec. 19 at the UConn campus.  www.bimp.uconn.edu.

Free Screening
PUTNAM --- The Putnam public schools will hold a free preschool screening today. Children 3 and 4 years of age who are Putnam residents are eligible to participate in this speech & language and developmental screening at the Putnam Elementary School. Cub Scouts
WOODSTOCK --- Cub Scout Pack 27 will hold its Joining Night at 6:30 p.m. in the Woodstock Elementary School cafeteria  for parents and boys (grades 1 to 5) who are not already involved in scouting.  It will explain the scouting program for the boys and will highlight what opportunities exist for parent involvement.  Program fee is $30 but will be waived for financially distressed families.  Scouts already in the program will be contacted shortly.  860-974-2443.

POMFRET --- The Pomfret Recreation Department's Corn Maze, "Mezmer Eyes," is open from noon to 6 p.m. through Oct. 30. Fright Nights are Oct. 29 and 30. The maze is near the town's recreation field off Rt. 97. Benefits the PCS 8th grade class.

Nature Program

Encampment
WOODSTOCK --- The 27th Connecticut volunteers and other military and civilian re-enactors will create a sense of life during the Civil War from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at Roseland Cottage. Free. All welcome.

Fund-raiser for Vets
PUTNAM --- The Putnam Lions Club will present its Second Annual Dog Walk in support of NEADS “Canines for Combat Veterans” from 1 to 4 p.m. at Rotary Park. The group provides service dogs for disabled veterans at no cost.    There is no cost to participate in the dog walk, however, donations and pledges will be greatly appreciated.
