‘Gerri’ Carlage,

CLERMONT, Fla. — Mrs. Geraldine “Gerri” L. Carlage, 63 of Clermont, formerly of Putnam and Thompson, died Sept. 8, 2010,  at Mike Conley Hospice House, Clermont, after a brief illness.
She was born May 3, 1947, in Webster, daughter of Laurent O. and Rita R. (Hamel) Bellerose.  She spent her early years in N. Grosvenordale, later moving with her parents  to Putnam, in 1961.  Gerri graduated from Putnam Catholic Academy in 1965, and then attended Memorial Hospital School of Nursing,  Worcester, graduating in 1969. 
She was the wife of Fred P. Carlage, together they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sept. 5, 2010. Gerri was an intensive care nurse at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam for more than 30 years retiring in 2002.  Following her retirement she and Fred moved to Florida. She was a former communicant of St. Mary of the Visitation Church.
In addition to her husband, she leaves one son, John P Carlage of New Hampshire; daughter Lauren (Tom) Brown of Clermont; brother Larry (Arlene) Bellerose of Clermont and Dayville; grandson Austin P. Wheeler of Clermont; granddaughter Michayla M. Brown of Clermont; two nephews John L. (Katie) Bellerose of Centerville, Mass., and David B. (Kimberly) Bellerose of Oxford, Mass.; one niece Kathryn B. (Robert) Willard of Thompson; three great-nephews, Ryan M. Bellerose of Putnam, Zachary R. Willard of Thompson and Myles M. Roycroft of Centerville;  three great-nieces, Alexandra M. and Anneliese M. Bellerose both of Oxford, Mass., and Emma K. Willard of Thompson.
 Visiting hours at the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15. Stella M. Durocher,

PUTNAM — Stella (Brzuch) Durocher, 93, of Ballou Street, died Sept. 4, 2010, in Day Kimball Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Arthur L. Durocher.  Born in 1917 in Mechanicsville, she was the daughter of the late Kaziemirz and Victoria (Lyiak) Brzuch.
 Mrs. Durocher worked as a sales clerk for Bugbee’s Department store and retired in 1975.  She enjoyed taking classes at UConn and QVCC.
Mrs. Durocher was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.  She volunteered at Day Kimball Hospital and at Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She helped form a Cub Scout Troop at St. Mary’s Church in the 1950’s and served as a Den Mother.  Stella was a world traveler.  She visited Poland twice, once in 1939 and again 50 years later in 1989.
She leaves sons, Arthur E. Durocher of Orlando, Fla., and Robert A. Durocher of Thompson; grandchildren, Angelique Black, Shelley Durocher, Heather Santos, and Jennifer Durocher; and four great-grandchildren, Eva Black, Etta Black, Jackson Santos and Gabriella Santos.  She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Brzuch.
The Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Sept. 18 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation,  Putnam with burial in West Thompson Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Andrew E. Harwood
DANIELSON — Andrew E. Harwood, infant son of Ronald W. Harwood Jr. and Melanie (Ginese) Harwood and twin brother of the late Anthony R. Harwood of Francis Street, died Sept. 7, 2010, in UMass Memorial Hospital. 
In addition to his parents, he leaves his maternal grandparents, Kevin and Robin Ide of Dayville, and Mark and Cathy Ginese of Shrewsbury, Mass.; his paternal grandparents, Rod and Sharon Ashley of Putnam; his uncle, Joey Ginese of Danielson; and his aunt, Theresa Rogers of Hudson, Mass.
A private graveside service for Andrew was held Sept. 11 in Westview Cemetery.

Glenda Dern,

DUDLEY – Glenda V. ( Austin) Dern, 75, died Sept. 9, 2010, in Radius Health Care Center, Southbridge. Her husband of 25 years, Howard M. Dern, died in 2008.
She was born in Dudley, the daughter of Frederick and Hildur (Hockenson) Austin and was a lifelong resident.
She attended Bartlett High School in Webster. Mrs. Dern worked at the American Optical Company in Southbridge for many years before she retired.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dudley.
She leaves a brother, Raymond G. Austin and his wife Jane F. Austin of Thompson; five nieces and nephews, Randy Austin of N. Grosvenordale, Jim Austin of Albany, Org., Dianne Barrett of Quinebaug, June Cazeault of Thompson, and Sandra Brezniak of Woodstock; three stepchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Arlene Marcy,
devoted to Grange
WOODSTOCK VALLEY — Arlene F. (Barrett) Marcy, 94, formerly of Shaw Road, Woodstock Valley, died Aug. 23, 2010, in Radius Healthcare Center of Southbridge.  She was born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Hazel (Keach) Barrett.  She was predeceased by her husband, Max Marcy (1981). 
She retired from Hale Manufacturing in 1980.  On July 30, 2010, Arlene was recognized by the Woodstock Grange with a “75-Year Certificate” for her devoted service and membership.  She was a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in W. Woodstock and of the Putnam Travelers Club.  She enjoyed traveling, bird watching, horticulture, day-trips to the beach.
She leaves her two sons, Ronald Marcy (Jean) Marcy and Robert Marcy; daughter, Maxine Marcy and her husband David Osier, all of Woodstock; sister, Eunice Lester, of Quincy, Fla.; three grandchildren, Melissa Desrosiers of Woodstock, Jessica Gill of Braintree, Mass., and Christina Gregorzek of Thompson, and two great-grandchildren.
An Open House celebrating Arlene’s life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the home of Robert Marcy, 3 Shaw Road, Woodstock Valley. Jeannette Clemens,

PUTNAM — Jeannette Clemens, 85, of Munyan Road, died Sept. 10, 2010, at Matulaitis Nursing Home. Wife of Robert F. Clemens, they were married Nov. 16, 1946. She was born  Dec. 19, 1924, in Putnam,  daughter of Ovila and Donalda (Brouillard) Gosselin.
She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation. Throughout her life her first priorities were wife and mother, she also held several secretarial positions, most importantly being secretary of R.F. Clemens and Sons, Inc. She was active in community organizations, for many years she led the 4-H Stitchers and Bakers. She was a member of the Putnam Grange, AARP and the West Thompson Cemetery Association.
Her enjoyments included family, traveling with her husband visiting all 50 states, mostly in their motorhome.
She loved dancing and music. Jeannette was a pancreatic cancer survivor in 2001 and courageously battled ovarian cancer.
She leaves her children Linda Picciarelli (Vincent) of Danielson, Robert Clemens (Cora) of Putnam, Roxanne Swidrak (John) of Lebanon, Mark Clemens (Bette) of Putnam; nine grandchildren, Maryann Picciarelli, Amy Jankins (Brian), Heather Picciarelli and her husband Bounti Phommachanh, Mindy Diamantopoulos (Christopher), Tami Stein (Nathan), Lori Clemens, Ryan Clemens (Sarah), Leslie Brothers (Shaun), Michael Swidrak (Kimberly), 11 great-grandchildren; sister Pauline Woodis; sister-in-law Ethel Parker.
She was predeceased by a sister Lorraine Richmond.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 13, at St. Mary Church of the Visitation with burial in West Thompson Cemetery.

Herman Freyer Jr.,
WWII vet
DAYVILLE — Herman A. Freyer Jr., 88, of Dayville, died Sept. 10, 2010, at Regency Heights, Danielson. Herman was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Bernice (Greene) and Herman Freyer Sr.
He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and served with the Tenth Mountain Division, 87th Infantry from December 1942 until November 1945.
Herman was a machinist by trade and had worked for many years at Pervel Industries in Plainfield, Turnquist Lumber Mill in Foster, R.I., and Acme Cotton/National Patent Company, Dayville, until his retirement. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Edith F. (Fittkau) Freyer; one daughter, Joy Beatty (Thomas) and their two children Erica and Kyle; two sons, Alan Freyer (Adrienne) of South Dakota, Max Freyer (Jacklyn) and their two children Matthew and Brandan of Dayville. He was predeceased by a third son Stephen Freyer March19, 2008, and a brother George E. Freyer who died in May 1979.
