The NECONN boys’ U12 soccer team traveled to Coventry Sept. 25 and came away with a 1-4 loss.
Coventry was a very strong team which scored four nice goals and suited up a strong keeper.  Coventry scored two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half.  NECONN keeper Alexander Frankhouser played the first 35 minutes and David Redfield took over in the second half.  Highlights for NECONN included Evan Cunningham and Sam Paul’s aggressive play up front and Cal Wilcox’s athletic defense in the back.
The lone goal for NECONN came in the second half when Jack Liggett transitioned a ball through midfield and slid it to Adam Trudeau up the left side.  Adam took a left-footed crack to the near-side and just snuck the ball between the post and the diving Coventry keeper.
Sept. 26 in a home game vs. Marlborough, NECONN avenged an early season 2-3 loss by toppling Marlborough by the score of 4-2.  This was a very solid team effort despite the fact that Evan Cunningham’s name appears all four times in the scoring column. Evan played an outstanding game, notching all four goals in the first half.  Other than a perfect through-ball assist from William Liscomb at the 27 minute mark, Evan’s goals were all unassisted on excellent touches inside the box.  Sam Paul, Adam Trudeau, Chris Walker, Elijah Dufour and Zach Gagnon alternated through the forward positions and gave Marlborough all they could handle from start to finish.  In the back, Jack Liggett was the steadying influence behind fullbacks Alec Nystrom, Connor Fillmore, Max Paro and Alexander Frankhouser.  NECONN keeper David Redfield was strong in the net, especially in the second half when Marlborough tried to get back in the game with two, quick, early goals.
NECONN’s record now stands at 2-3. They travel to Hebron on Oct. 3 for a 4 p.m. game.
